Purpose of the Role: Lead Newcrest social performance and community relations team at Red Chris mine We are seeking an individual for a Fly In, Fly Out opportunity working on a two weeks in, two weeks out rotation. Accountabilities:

  • Supervising, driving and supporting the performance of the Red Chris site Community Relations team
  • Training, coaching and mentoring the Community Relations and management teams on community relations, social performance and the IBCA; ensure ongoing team focus on performance & development plans and processes.
  • Leading ongoing management and implementation of the Red Chris social performance management system, which includes components of benefit sharing, engagement plans, community complaint & grievance management, social risk assessment & management, community investment, and cultural competency.
  • Continuing implementation of relevant aspacxtes of the Impact Benefit Co-management Agreement (IBCA) with Tahltan Nation, including acting as Newcrest representative on Social Cultural Committee, and provision of guidance and support to the Red Chris teams related to the IBCA.
  • Guiding and promoting internally a mutually beneficial relationship between our operations and the Tahltan Nation and local communities so present and future business opportunities are maximised
  • Proactively engaging with the Tahltan Nation on community concerns, interests and aspirations
  • Implementing a risk-focused Engagement Plan
  • Planning and organizing site tours for external parties, the Tahltan Nation and local communities
  • Supporting execution of site events such as Tahltan Day and Truth and Reconciliation Day
  • Integrating the social performance management system with other site management systems
  • Supporting Red Chris site and regional initiatives in the delivery of indigenous workforce development and business procurement strategies
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with other functional areas of the Red Chris site including Human Resources/People, Environment, Supply Chain & Procurement, and site Operations
  • Acting as a Company representative in ongoing communication between Newcrest and Tahltan leadership
  • Developing and managing annual Red Chris social performance budgets
  • Performing other duties as required or assigned
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Post-secondary education in Indigenous relations, social performance, social sciences, sustainability, or related field, or blend of relevant education & experience
  • Minimum of 7 years experience in Indigenous relations or community relations
  • Demonstrated experience in, and passion for, developing and supporting teams
  • Experience in a cross-cultural working environment.
  • Experience in mining
