Summer Student Opportunity for a Research and Policy Development position
The NS College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (NSCMLT) is seeking a self-motivated summer student who wants to gain knowledge and experience, preferably in the legal and health regulatory framework governing processes. The position involves an undertaking of cross jurisdictional research, analysis to identify best practices and trends on issues related to strategy, policy, and performance in the interest of public safety supporting NSCMLT\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision, and values. The applicant must currently in post secondary school and must be returning to University September 2023. The Position Reporting to the Executive Director/Registrar and Deputy Registrar, the successful applicants\xe2\x80\x99 key responsibilities will be to provide policy advice, and research on NSCMLT mandates. This will include research, analysis, design and documentation of business processes related to independent MLT practice and point of care testing outside of the hospital environment. They will be expected to develop applicable procedures, policies, and providing regular status updates to the Registrar. Other activities may include coordinating, supporting, and developing communications to internal and external stakeholders, creating presentations and other communication material as needed, along with providing general support to the Registrar. The position allows for the ability to work a hybrid model of in the office and at home. Qualifications and Experience The following qualifications, skills and experiences are considered essential:
  • Entering or returning to post-secondary education in the fall of 2023;
  • Experience conducting research and analysis;
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook or
Apple equivalent;
  • Experience drafting and completing communications;
  • Experience in the preparation of reports, briefing notes, presentations, and project status reports; and
  • Ability to perform other related duties as assigned.
The following qualifications and skills are considered assets but not essential:
  • Basic knowledge of health regulation;
  • Regulation or legislation policy interpretation and implementation;
  • Knowledge of research and evaluation approaches in various settings;
  • Proficient in analysis and interpretation of data and dissemination of results in reports and presentations;
  • Demonstrated individual leadership skills and autonomous critical thinking ability;
  • Demonstrated time management skills as well as experience prioritizing and working in a collaborative environments;
  • Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills;
  • Ensures confidentiality and works in an ethical manner;
Work week consist of 30 hours
Start Date May 15 2023 - End Date August 18 2023
Salary $20.00/hour Job Type: Seasonal
Contract length: 14 weeks Salary: $20.00 per hour Ability to commute/relocate:
  • Bedford, NS B3M 2L4: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
