Job Description


Overview:Summer Student - Hay RiverWorking in a team environment, the Summer Student (Drafting) will assist the Project and Engineering Department with drafting, scanning, and drawing record services. Update the drawing records on an ongoing basis in the electronic document management software Meridian. He/she will gain skills related to plotter use to produce and scan full-size drawings and collect data from remote communities to verify the drawing's accuracies. This position will assist the student with familiarization of working drawings, Drafting Processes, and Standards. Site visits to remote communities of NWT will be required for the collection of data/drawings. Responsibilities:

  • Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
  • Enter correct information for Drawings / PDFs / Photos in Meridian.
  • Work on Drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Print / Scan / Copy Drawings as required.
  • Site visits to remote communities of NWT for collection of data/drawings.
  • Other duties as required.
Qualifications:Qualifications:
  • Must be a current post-secondary student in a two-year Design Drafting Technology Diploma program OR a four-year Engineering Degree program (Electrical/Mechanical/Civil/Environmental) OR a two-year Electrical/Mechanical/Civil Technology Diploma program; AND who has completed at least first year of studies;
  • Must be returning to full-time studies in Fall 2025.
  • Must have skills related to design/drafting.
  • Must be proficient with the AutoCAD and Microsoft Office suite of programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Must be innovative, self-motivated, and organized.
  • Must be a team player, and able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Above average communication skills are required.
  • Good keyboard skills are required.
  • Close attention to detail is required.
  • Must be willing to travel to remote communities for site visits, which may include flying on small airplanes or travel by road.

This casual position pays $30.82 per hour plus 10% vacation pay.
