The Summer Student, Data Science & Advanced Analytics will join ENMAX Energy's analytics team and gain hands-on experience applying data science and analytics techniques to real business challenges. Working alongside experienced analytics professionals, you'll develop exposure to electricity markets, trading, and power generation while contributing to analytical solutions that support forecasting, optimization, and decision-making.
In this role, you'll work with real energy market and operational data, modern cloud analytics platforms such as Azure Databricks, and quantitative models to inform decisions in areas like price forecasting and market analysis.
This position is part of ENMAX's 16-week Summer Student Program (2026). ENMAX invests in future talent by providing real project experience and mentorship. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in a relevant post-secondary program and returning to school after the summer term.
Major Responsibilities:Support data preparation, cleansing, and feature engineering to ensure energy market, operational, and financial datasets are accurate, consistent, and analysis-ready Contribute to the development, review, testing, and refinement of data science, predictive, and valuation models (both quantitative and qualitative) used for trading, forecasting, optimization, and business decision-making Assist with energy price forecasting, load forecasting analysis by validating model outputs, assessing assumptions, and summarizing insights Apply statistical analysis, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and machine learning techniques to identify trends, drivers, and anomalies in energy data Help build, test, document, and improve automated data pipelines and analytical workflows using Azure Databricks and other cloud-based analytics tools Perform ad-hoc analysis and deep-dive investigations to support daily trading activities, market strategy development, and management reporting Document analytical methods, models, and processes to support transparency, reproducibility, and knowledge sharing within the team

Education Required: Currently enrolled in a Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or related analytical program and returning to full-time studies following the work term.
Qualifications & Experience:Experience with data analysis and programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL; background in data science, engineering, computer science, or analytics preferred Familiarity with statistical modeling, predictive analytics, or machine learning concepts gained through coursework, projects, or internships Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with large datasets and quantitative models Interest in energy markets, forecasting, optimization, or applied analytics in a business environment Effective written and verbal communication skills for explaining analytical results and documenting workflows Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools for analysis, visualization, and reporting

Salary: Administrator Level B Step 1 - $24.82 / hour based on current CUPE Collective Agreement rates
Location: This role is part of our hybrid work model, with office workspace at ENMAX Place (141 - 50 Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays, and in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
