Assist with the day-to-day operations of the research lab and field program while reporting to the Research Technician and/ or Director of Research & Development.
Responsibilities:
updating and maintaining the seed inventory database and physical seed inventory
preparing seed for field trials
collection of data on seed quality of seeding and harvest samples
recording observations and measurements from research field plots
compiling field trial data
operating and maintaining laboratory equipment
coordinating seed shipments
managing and completing projects as assigned
Qualifications
:
enrollment in a diploma or degree program in plant science, agronomy, horticulture or a related discipline preferred. Applicants with a farm or rural background pursuing non-agricultural studies are encouraged to apply.* experience working in a research setting with seed and/ or crops is an asset
strong attention to detail and ability to follow research protocols
capable of managing projects independently and troubleshooting as needed
ability to participate in pest management strategies in an agricultural storage environment
prepared to work outside of normal working hours and overtime as required
comfortable working outdoors in remote locations, with consent to travel outside Saskatoon up to two days per week
valid driver's license and experience driving a ton truck on highways and grid roads
physically able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
excellent written and spoken communication in English
demonstrates reliability and focus in performing detailed, repetitive tasks
thrives in a collaborative team environment with shared accountability
