Position Overview The Department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Summer Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 4 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension. The department of Geography in the Faculty of Arts is seeking a Summer Research Associate in the Applied Geospatial Research Group (AGRG; www.appliedgrg.ca), reporting to the Principal Investigator. Position Description Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
  • The Summer Research Associate will support research activities ongoing in the AGRG
  • Plan and perform vegetation surveys, drone flights, and RTK surveys in remote field locations in northern Alberta. Please note that the position will call for extended field visits
  • Carry out geospatial data analysis in the lab
  • Plan field logistics and perform preparation/maintenance of equipment
  • Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
  • Manage own time effectively and ensure immediate reports-to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
Qualifications / Requirements:
  • Fully developed skills in remote sensing and GIS, excellent communication abilities, and the capacity to work as part of a team
  • Coursework and/or practical experience with remote sensing, GIS, GNSS, and vegetation identification
  • Experience with scientific sampling and organizing field excursions
  • Familiarity with geospatial programs like ArcGIS, LASTools, and ENVI
  • Class 5 driver\'s license (non GDL) required
