Capital Markets Regulation, Legal Services Branch
The Legal Services team develops legislation, rules, and policies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the regulation of Capital Markets. The team provides advice on regulatory policy initiatives covering registration requirements, self-regulatory bodies, exchanges and marketplace infrastructure, and fintech & innovation issues. They also assist market participants and other Commission staff in understanding regulatory obligations.
Job Summary
The Law Intern will work under the guidance of the Manager of Legal Services on various projects assigned by the legal counsel team. We encourage students with diverse backgrounds to apply for this position, but only those who have completed, or are currently taking, a law school course in securities regulation will be considered.
Among other tasks, the student may have the opportunity to:
\xc2\xb7 Draft memos, briefing notes, and other documents
\xc2\xb7 Conduct legal research and analyze legislation, policy, and case law
\xc2\xb7 Conduct research on current events that impact the securities industry
\xc2\xb7 Gather and analyze market data
\xc2\xb7 Assist with the development of emerging regulatory issues including financial technology (Fintech)
This position is available on a temporary full-time basis. Please note this is not an articling position.
The term of this temporary position is from approximately May 1 to August 30, 2024.
Salary for this position is $27.47/hour + $50.00 bi-weekly in lieu of benefits + 6% vacation pay. Offers will be subject to reference, credit, police, and regulatory checks.
