Job Title: Summer Food Program Assistant

Job Type: Temporary Part-Time

Work Type: In Person

Hours: 30hrs/wk

Wage: $19/hr

Contract Length: June 26th to August 25th

Summary: The Food Program Assistant brings a strength-based approach to excellence in service delivery at the food bank and other food programs. The Thrift Store Worker supports the day-to-day operations of the SCCSS Thrift Store and creates a welcoming retail environment for customers, donors, clients, and volunteers.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Food Program responsibilities

  • Ensure the sorting area is safe \xe2\x80\x93 maintain clear walkways and exits.
  • Builds, develops and maintains strong and effective working relationships with your peers.
  • Ensure proper product quality through proper sorting techniques
  • Unload donated items from vehicles upon arrival
  • Ensures food distribution room and all storage space is clean and tidy during and completing each shift.
  • Prepares food distribution room \xe2\x80\x93 sorts and stacks items in an orderly manner on the shelves
  • Ensures protocols and procedures are adhered to during distribution.
Thrift store responsibilities
  • Operating the cash register; store opening and closing duties; research and pricing.
  • Supports volunteers with receiving, organizing, sorting and pricing donations
  • Provides exceptional customer service during business hours with customers and donors
  • Assist in program administration and clerical duties as needed
  • Support the mission, vision and values of SCCSS including participating in organizational wide initiatives as interested or asked.
  • Stays current with SCCSS programs and services.
  • Assists with other duties as required, from time to time, aiding with the efficient operation of the organization.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Willingness to learn, be creative and flexible when situations change, adaptable to new technologies, and able to work in ambiguous environments
  • Demonstrated cultural competency
  • Ability to work flexible hours
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Successful results of a criminal record check
  • Between the ages of 15 to 30 years
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Able to work effectively in a team
  • Vehicle and driver\'s license would be an asset
  • Working knowledge of computer software (word, excel, power point)
