Job Description

Kitchener-Waterloo Diving Club (KW Diving Club) is seeking a full-time Day Camp Counselor. This position would start part-time in June 2026, then transition to full-time in July 2026 and continue to early September 2026. The Day Camp Counselor is responsible for leading and supervising children in a structured and safe environment during KW Diving Club's day camp program.

Position Overview:



As our Day Camp Counselor, working alongside our Day Camp Coaches, you will be responsible for guiding children through recreational, educational, and group activities during the summer day camp program. The role requires enthusiasm, leadership, and the ability to work in a team setting. The Day Camp Counselor ensures that campers have a fun, engaging, and safe experience.

Key Responsibilities:



Supervision & Safety:



Ensure the safety and well-being of all campers at all times. Supervise children in various activities and during transitions between activities. Enforce camp rules and guidelines to ensure a positive and safe experience. Respond to emergencies and medical needs when necessary.

Activity Leadership:



Lead and facilitate scheduled activities, such as sports, arts & crafts, games, small group activities, and team-building exercises. Encourage camper participation and foster a fun, positive environment. Adapt activities to suit the needs and interests of campers, ensuring inclusivity.

Camp Preparation & Clean-up:



Assist in setting up and cleaning up activity areas. Prepare materials and supplies for daily activities. Maintain equipment and report any safety concerns or damaged items.

Group Management:



Lead a group of campers, and maintain group cohesion and discipline. Serve as a role model for campers, demonstrating respect, responsibility, and teamwork. Develop a rapport with campers and build positive relationships.

Communication:



Maintain regular communication with the Camp Manager, Day Camp Coaches, and parents about camper progress and concerns. Participate in daily briefings and debriefings with the camp leadership team.

Personal Development:



The successful candidate agrees to participate in camp training sessions, which will occur a few hours at a time, over the course of several weeks in May/June 2026. Hourly compensation will be provided for training sessions. The successful candidate agrees to partake in camp planning and preparation, on a part time basis, in May/June 2026. Hourly compensation will be provided for time spent planning and preparing. Seek continuous improvement in leadership and activity facilitation.

Other Duties:



Assist in other camp operations as needed. Promote camp spirit and foster a positive camp culture.

Qualifications:



Age Requirement:

Must be at least 18 years old

Experience:

Prior experience working with children in a camp, school, or recreational setting is a plus, but not required. Prior experience with the sport of diving and/or gymnastics is a plus, but also not required.

Skills:

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work well with children and in a team environment. Enthusiasm and energy for working with kids. Ability to lead, motivate, and engage children in activities.

Certifications (currently holds or is willing to obtain prior to start of camp):



CPR and First Aid Certification.

Physical Requirements:



Ability to stand, walk, and participate in outdoor and physical activities for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (e.g., carry equipment, assist with camper needs).

Schedule:



Full-time, seasonal position, from early July 2026 to early September 2026, depending on the camp schedule. Part-time position (planning and training) occurs in June 2026. Work hours are generally Monday-Friday, with some time off during specialty diving camps.

Compensation:



Hourly pay rate of $18.00

Someone who is energetic, patient, and passionate about working with children. Must be a reliable team player and have a positive attitude, even in challenging situations. Able to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and demonstrate creativity in activities.
This role is perfect for a Secondary or Post-Secondary student who wants to gain experience in child development, leadership, or education while enjoying a dynamic work environment. Must be at least 18 years of age.
