Program Coordinator, Assistant Program Coordinator, Guidance Counselor, Waterfront CoordinatorCamp Smitty, proudly operated by the BGC Ottawa, offers a beautiful lakefront setting, fantastic staff team, and dynamic programs for campers 8-16 years old. We are located 90 minutes outside of Ottawa near Eganville, ON, on Mink Lake.Since 1924, the camp has built a reputation as a highly respected program; BGC Ottawa is very proud of. We have provided exceptional camp experiences for hundreds of young people each summer.Our staff team always sets up apart ... a really impressive group of dedicated people who genuinely care. They create a safe and fun environment offering parents peace of mind, and allowing kids to have the time of their life.The 2021 Camp season is quickly approaching. There are 3 camp sessions and Pre-Camp / Post-Camp:Senior Staff Training: June 28 - July 2Staff training week: July 5 - July 11Session 1: July 12 - July 22
Session 2: July 26 - August 5
Session 3: August 9 - August 19Post Camp: August 20Selected staff must be available for all sessions including pre and post camp.This is an overnight camp for campers and staff. Room and board are provided to the staff. Transportation to and from Camp and Ottawa is provided to the staff.We encourage all interested candidates to submit a detailed resume and cover letter, quoting the position title of interest in the cover letter no later than June 11, 2021. Working closely with the Assistant Manager and Manager, the Program Coordinator will play a leadership role in assisting in the development of exceptional camper experiences, program offerings with measurable outcomes, and strong role modelling relationships to campers and all counselors.Responsibilities / Activities
Provide positive leadership and be a role model for children
Ensure BGCO policies and procedures are followed
Assist in the development and promotion of program schedules
Provide direct delivery for programs
Responsible to support and actively participate in camp activities
Effectively assist in training and supervising staff
Support counselors to deliver quality services effectively
Actively participate in staff meetings
Assist in identifying areas of staff training for employees and deliver a training program that ensures professional development at Camp Smitty
Develop professional engaging relationships with all campers
Complete inventory of program material and provide manager with list of materials needed during pre-camp and at the end of each session
Ensure Program area is maintained and cleaned on a regular basis
Performs other related duties as required.Required Education, Training & Experience
Currently in Post secondary or diploma or degree in Education, Social Services or related field, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 2 year's experience in a child and youth-related field, including direct leadership, and program administration
Experience and/or desire to work with children in dynamic outdoor setting
Demonstrated confidence in decision making
Excellent interpersonal and communications skills to build and maintain relationships with staff and co-workers
Experience supervising staff, teambuilding and delivering training opportunities
Proven ability to work with others in meeting program objectives
Effective program delivery skills
Demonstrate confidence in leading activities and groups
Valid first aid/CPR, Swimming Certification, canoeing, coaching and instructional experience are all assets
Multilingualism is an asset

Provide positive leadership and be a role model for children

Support and actively participate in all camp activities
Assist in the development and promotion of individual camper schedule based on camper needs
Provide direct counseling for campers with challenging behaviors as well as campers who are in need of emotional support
Assist in the development and promotion of individual camper schedule based on camper needs
Attend training provided by Camp Manager
Assist Camp Manager with staff training
Support counselors to deliver quality services effectively
Actively participate in staff meetings
Develop professional engaging relationships with all campers
Perform other related duties as required.Required Education, Training & Experience
Current Emergency First Aid/CPR Certificate
Minimum of 2 year's experience in a child and youth-related field, including direct leadership and program administration
Demonstrated Leadership skills
Experience and/or desire to work with children in dynamic outdoor setting
Skilled at dealing with all children, including those that are challenging
Ability to be a role model to staff and children
Ability to relate well to peers, to be a team player, to give/receive feedback
Demonstrate confidence in leading activities and individual incentive programs
Demonstrated confidence in decision making and excellent communication skills
Previous Overnight camp counselor experience an asset
Swimming Certification, canoeing, coaching and instructional experience are all assets
Multilingualism is an asset
HIGH FIVE certificate is an assetWATERFRONT COORDINATOR
To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of activities at the camp's waterfront that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper's age and abilities. Provide management to the physical operation of the waterfront facilities and equipment.Responsibilities / Activities
1. Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun waterfront program
Evaluate aquatics abilities of campers and staff.
Deliver creative swim and watercraft program activities.
2. Train and supervise waterfront staff
Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
Train waterfront and camp staff in their waterfront responsibilities.
Supervise counseling staff to provide a safe and high-quality program.
Implement the scheduling of waterfront staff.
3. Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the waterfront program area
Set up waterfront area prior to and during staff training.
Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
Conduct initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety.
Check equipment, and make (or file for) repairs.
Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed.
4. Participate as a member of the camp management team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions
Work with Camp Manager and Program Coordinator to develop a program curriculum, awards programs, and leadership programs.
Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the waterfront.
Participate in management and staff meetings
Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff
Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.Required Education, Training & Experience
Currently in Post-secondary or diploma / degree in Education, Social Services or related field, or equivalent work experience
Currently enrolled or completed post-secondary Education
Current Certifications in Lifeguarding, NLS, instructors and standard first aid/CPR
Minimum 2 years of experience in a supervisory role
Experience working with children in a dynamic outdoor setting
Excellent communication skills
Possess enthusiasm, energy, patience and sense of humor
