Position Summary
The Summer Assistant- Community Development Programs position will provide planning, program and administration support for the Community Development team working in the Ranee office and different program locations in July and August. The summer assistant will also assist the CD manager and the team in the Local Leadership Grant Trusteeship administration. The Local Leadership Grant supports resident-led projects that are engaged in local activation and focus on wellness, social inclusivity, civic engagement, and education across all Toronto neighbourhoods. The Local Leadership Grant will prioritize the leadership and participation of Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit and Metis), Black and other equity-deserving groups within Neighbourhood Improvement Areas and Emerging Neighbourhoods.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning & Program Delivery
Assist in planning and carrying engagement activities and programs relating to neighbourhood planning processes, mutual aid, and other leadership opportunities for residents in Lawrence Heights, Lotherton, Bathurst- Finch, Weston Mount Dennis, and neighbourhoods
Provide support to NYCH staff, CD Manager, program participants, and resident leaders.
Build and maintain relationship with the Local Leadership Grant recipients, for example, oversee financial processes of NYCH's trusteeship role and ensure the timelines for distributing grants is adhered to in coordination with NYCH's finance team
Collaborate with the CD Manager and CD team to align timelines and deliverables with regard to the Local Leadership Grant distribution
May assist in the development of local capacity-building opportunities for residents.
Participate in online/or in person community network meetings to understand and the challenges residents are facing
Support with program outreach and engagement both in-person and on-line using social media tools.
Understand and adhere to health and safety requirements in setting up in-person activities and online programming spaces with other agency staff and community partners to implement in-person and online workshops and events
Participate in program debriefs and team meetings as required
Keep record of meeting minutes, support creating surveys, reports, help in administering and maintaining program registration forms and other admin duties as assigned.

Documentation and Reporting
Record and submit program attendance, registration and reports, client files and service information and other administrative duties as required
Conduct program evaluations, analyze data, and produce reports
Submit Canada Summer Jobs staff attendance forms regularly and on time
Assist with managing all documentation and records related to the Local Leadership Grant trusteeship process.
Coordinate logistics for meetings, including scheduling and note-taking
Maintain organized digital and physical filing systems to track communications, proposals, and reporting deadlines
Financial & Reporting Support
Support the preparation and tracking of budgets, payments, and expense documentation
Assist with processing financial requests from resident-led groups (e.g., reimbursements, invoices)
Position Requirements:
Education
Pursuing post-secondary (college, technical institute, university) education in social services, physical education or education, an asset
Experience and Skills
A keen interest in community development, civic engagement,
Knowledge of community resources and supports.
Knowledge and experience using online tools (i.e. Zoom, Google hangouts, Facebook Live, Instagram live, Tik Tok)
Experience working in teams and the ability to work independently when required
Experience in handling finance-related work for small projects, for example, tracking project timelines and budget
Experience with budgeting, invoicing, and financial reporting.
Highly motivated, positive attitude and ability to work well in a team environment.
Responsible, dependable and punctual, with timely communication with staff/supervisor
Strong oral and written communication skills and computer literacy, including Google Docs, Microsoft Word and Excel
Flexibility to work with multiple supervisors and different summer programs.
Assets
Previous experience participating in or volunteering with NYCH programs and/ or events.
Lived experience and/ or experience working with residents in Lawrence Heights and other neighbourhood Improvement Areas in North York is an asset
Experience facilitating or supporting leadership programs
Experience/interest in learning how to use various design tools (i.e. Canva, Photoshop)
Oral and written communication skills in other language(s)
First aid/CPR training
Other Requirements:
NYCH supports the process of getting updated police reference checks upon employment
Access to quality Wi-Fi, phone, laptop, or computer with camera and sound
Regular hours are typically from 9:00am - 5:00pm; some evening and weekend work is required
Working Conditions:
Schedule will be arranged with supervisor. This position requires working in- person in different programming locations and neighbourhoods that NYCH serves as well as online
