JOB PURPOSE:

The Sub Teacher shall have responsibilities with respect to the quality of the learning experiences of the students, cooperation with colleagues and administrative authorities in advancing the educational standards of the school, participation in educational planning by staff and Kitaskinaw Education and the regular advancement of professional competence.

In addition to the general framework of duties and responsibilities outlined within the Education Act of Alberta and by the Kitaskinaw Education Authority, a Sub Teacher has additional specific duties to assist the principal. They are to promote the educational well-being of each student in his or her charge, responsible for the supervision and instruction, and care and discipline of pupils for any or all pupils of the school as assigned by the principal of the school. They will cooperate with other educational authorities, to share the responsibility of setting up and maintaining a learning environment suitable to the task and the to the students. They will maintain the best possible learning environment that will contribute to the positive physical and emotional development of each of their students.

The Teacher will enforce the rules governing the conduct of pupils as may be prescribed by the principal, as well as keep all records as required. They will evaluate pupil's achievement in accordance with school's policies and regulations. Attend all meetings to which they are called upon by the Executive Director of Education or Principal on any school day for the purpose of discussing matter of concern to the school. Maintain regular assigned supervision of the students during recess and/or breaks, as well as supervise the movements of their pupils during the assembling or dismissing of the school or class.

The Sub Teacher is expected to honor a Code of Professional Ethics and as exemplified by the Alberta

Teachers' Association Code of Ethics, while making a continuing effort to improve professionally.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

The Sub Teacher will have a high commitment to the benefits of education, respect for confidentiality, knowledge of community, and Indigenous culture in Canada

o

Have competent speaking and writing skills

o

Have a strong commitment to the development, progress, and inclusion of students with varying needs

o

Have experience in curriculum planning, and program development and/or implementation of programs

o

Bachelor of Education & Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate

o

Clear Criminal Record Check/Intervention Record Check

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work on call as needed, at maskekosak kiskinomatowikamik School, while adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
