Job Description


The Climate Smart Lab at the Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) is seeking six (6) student research assistants to work on several research projects related to climate monitoring, climate data analytics, climate change modeling, climate change impact assessment and adaptation, climate policies in the context of PEI. The CCCCA is a 45,000 square-foot research facility located in the community of St. Peter\'s Bay, PEI. The facility and the lands surrounding it serve as a living laboratory that allows for unlimited access to nearby wetlands, forests, and coastal habitats. The CCCCA is a world leading research and teaching center in understanding and adapting to climate change impacts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Monitoring the changing climate and its impacts on PEI through field visits and online data collection
  • Using R, ArcGIS/QGIS, and other programming languages to process climate data
  • Modeling climate change and its impacts on PEI, such as flood modeling and crop modeling under climate change
  • Reviewing and identifying climate policies to help address the ongoing climate change issues in PEI
  • Organizing and participating in meetings/webinars/conferences
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
  • Be self-motivated and have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated experience with managing multiple tasks
  • Be willing to collaborate and work with an interdisciplinary research team
  • Have previous research experience about PEI\'s climate change issues (this is not required but will be a great asset for consideration)
Priority will be given to University of Prince Edward Island students in accordance with Recruitment, Selection, Hiring and Employment Policies and the Procedures manual.
