Student Recruitment Officer - Undergraduate International Student Arts and Science Recruitment Speci

Primary Purpose:The College of Arts and Science, in collaboration with Teaching, Learning and Student Experience, Student Recruitment team, are responsible for supporting intake and enrollment goals as set out by the University and the College, which include attracting quantity, quality and diversity of students to our programs. The Undergraduate International Student Recruitment Specialist will work as part of the College of Arts and Science\'s Recruitment team, and alongside the TLSE Recruitment team, supporting prospective students through the recruitment, admission, and pre-arrival/arrival phases of the student lifecycle. This position will focus strategically on initiatives and activities related to the recruitment of international undergraduate Arts and Science students, maximizing stakeholder awareness of the benefits and value of the vast array of Arts and Science degrees and certificate programs, with a focus on career competencies and skills required by today\'s post-secondary students.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager of First Year Programs and Recruitment within the College of Arts and Science portfolio, this position will also work collaboratively with the TLSE Recruitment team. The Specialist will receive resources, training, and coordination from both the College of Arts and Science and the Central recruiting team. The position will be primarily housed within the College of Arts and Science. The Specialist will also spend regular dedicated time with the TLSE student recruitment team. Activities and priorities of the Specialist will be outlined within the undergraduate Arts and Science student recruitment strategy, which is under collaborative development between the two units.

The successful candidate must be willing to immerse themselves in learning about the value and flexibility of an Arts and Science education, with special attention to those programs with the most potential for growth within the college\'s unique positioning in the post-secondary landscape. In addition, the successful candidate will become familiar with the more than 70 unique Arts and Science programs and their admission requirements, as well as with the college\'s research initiatives and academic priorities. As a recruitment professional, and as a representative of the USask Student Recruitment team, the successful candidate is also expected to develop a holistic understanding of the University of Saskatchewan\'s programs and services, the university\'s Enrolment 2025 goals, the priorities and strategies of the college and the central recruitment team, and other best practices in student recruitment.

The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate within and across the College of Arts and Science\'s Student Affairs teams, and the TLSE Student Recruitment team. They will work closely with other key units such as the TLSE Service Team, Admissions & Transfer Credit, and International Student and Study Abroad Centre. The Specialist will be an excellent communicator, able to easily create connections with prospective students as they make their decision to attend USask, as well as connect professionally with individuals who assist students with their decision-making such as parents, high school and post-secondary counsellors, education agents, and student mobility offices with other partner universities.

The successful candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, technology-rich and high-volume environment characterized by continuous change, shifting priorities where competing deadlines and multi-tasking is the norm, and student satisfaction is of paramount importance. The volume and nature of work can vary considerably with the recruitment cycle. The ability to undertake travel while maintaining other administrative and placement functions from a distance is essential. The person must be able to work both independently and as part of multiple teams to implement and deliver on agreed priorities.

Accountabilities: The key accountability of the Undergraduate International Student Arts and Science Recruitment Specialist is to ensure the College of Arts and Science\'s undergraduate enrolment targets for international students are achieved. This is accomplished through the collaborative development and delivery of key student recruitment strategies across the enrolment funnel (prospective student, applicant, admitted student, confirmed student, registered student). Accountabilities will include:

  • Working collaboratively with the central Student Recruitment team, the College of Arts and Science\'s Student Affairs teams, and other campus units to develop and implement an integrated undergraduate Arts and Science recruitment strategy that maximizes resources and minimizes duplication of efforts.
  • Participating in the preparation, planning, and execution of recruitment and student transition events, such as the College of Arts and Science\'s Orientation for new students, Major Possibilities, campus tours, as well as events organized by TLSE Student Recruitment, including Open House, U-Start, and other on-campus opportunities.
  • Maintaining contact with prospective students throughout the recruitment cycle, from prospective student to registered student, by email, telephone, face-to-face visits, Unibuddy, WeChat, web, relationship management system (RECRUIT -RMS) as well as other technologies.
  • Fostering relationships and providing outstanding service to key influencers and stakeholders such as parents, high school counsellors, postsecondary counsellors, agents, partners, and government.
  • Coordinating and participating in virtual and in-person international education fairs, as well as campus tours, and stakeholder familiarity visits.
  • Developing and delivering comprehensive presentations for prospective international students and other stakeholders, and contributing to the development of promotional materials and digital strategies.
  • Researching and keeping informed of innovations, trends, and professional development opportunities within the scope of the student recruitment, admissions, student services and higher-education marketing professions.
  • Working collaboratively with Admissions & Transfer Credit, International Student and Study Abroad Centre and the College of Arts and Science\'s Student Affairs teams, to develop and promote pathways and transition supports for our diverse student body.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education: Undergraduate degree required. Completion of a master\'s degree would be considered an asset. A degree from the Humanities, Social Sciences or Fine Arts would also be considered an asset to this role. Preference given to qualified candidates who are graduates of the College of Arts and Science at the University of Saskatchewan.

Experience: Student-focused experience within a postsecondary environment is highly desired as is experience with marketing, data analysis, event planning and/or delivery, public speaking, market research, and relationship/partnership development. The successful candidate must also have demonstrated effective intercultural competencies and sensitivity, and a proven ability to build effective relationships and collaborations with internal and external stakeholders. Experience with volunteer management, student leadership, andragogy/pedagogy, and Arts and Science programs would be considered important assets to this role.

Skills: Ability to work and communicate effectively with students from a broad range of backgrounds and cultures; excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills; relationship building, negotiation and diplomacy; ability to work as part of a team; ability to initiate and implement activities independently; event-planning and delivery; market research and data analysis; knowledge of the University of Saskatchewan, including: academic programs, admission and award application procedures and policies, registration procedures, student support services, and facilities; continuous learning mindset; familiarity and experience with: PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook and willingness to utilize social media and technology platforms including the University\'s Relationship Management System (RECRUIT); comfortable with online resources and communications. The candidate will have the ability and willingness to travel throughout Western Canada, and to be absent from Saskatoon for extended periods of time. Must possess and maintain a valid driver\'s license with an acceptable driving record. It is possible that international travel would be required on occasion and the candidate must possess a valid passport and have the ability to obtain visas required for travel.
