Founded in 1912, the Faculty of Law is the oldest law school in Western Canada. Faculty members of the University of Alberta, Faculty of Law are recognized nationally and internationally as leading scholars and teachers, and lead by example in their service to the university, legal and civic communities. The Faculty enrolls approximately 525 Juris Doctor students and operates a robust graduate program. The Faculty of Law is also home to four research groups that contribute research, ideas, innovation and policy expertise to important areas of public concern: the Wahkohtowin Law and Governance Lodge, Health Law Institute, Centre for Constitutional Studies, and Alberta Law Reform Institute.
Position
The Student Recruiter/Funding Advisor supports enrollment efforts of the Faculty of Law by providing admissions information to prospective students, creating communication materials, and representing the Faculty of Law at on-site locations such as high schools, universities, and community colleges.
This position establishes and administers programs for targeting recruitment and retention of students to academic programs in the Faculty of Law, including the Juris Doctor (JD) undergraduate program and graduate programs. The incumbent coordinates university participation in outreach activities, which include recruitment activities directed at historically marginalized and/or under-represented groups. The incumbent provides consultation to students regarding funding options available through the Faculty, University of Alberta, student loans, and private lending institutions. This position also takes the lead in organizing and planning information sessions, new student and family orientation events, and other programs for new and prospective law students. The incumbent is responsible for Law student exchange programs and provides information and assistance to University of Alberta students doing an exchange term abroad and foreign students completing an exchange term at the University of Alberta.
