Hiring Unit: User Services - Schulich Library of Physical Science, Life Sciences, and Engineering
Position Summary:
Providing assistance in navigating the Library and McGill websites as well as providing basic support in the use of technology located in the branch library (computers, scanners, printers, etc.)
Shelving and service point support
Ensuring appropriate guidelines are followed in relation to the use of the facilities
Serving as representatives of the Library at various events, lead tours and engage in other outreach activities
Performing bibliographic searches and locating relevant library items
Photocopying, scanning and transmitting documents
Carrying out collection maintenance tasks: vacuuming of materials, assessing the condition of items, boxing, wrapping, tying up, and performing basic repairs
Changing deficient barcodes and call number labels
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day-to-day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level # (3) on a scale of 0-4. Other languages an asset. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work with minimal supervision, willingness to learn, seek clarification as necessary. Good computer skills and the ability to troubleshoot problems with printers and scanners. Previous experience in a customer service or instruction/training role an asset.
