As an integral member of the Tyendinaga Township Public Library team, the Student Librarian supports the CEO/Head Librarian and Assistant Librarian in providing high-quality service to patrons of all ages. The successful candidate will assist with circulation duties, light cleaning, tutoring students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, and supporting library programs and activities.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for a student interested in education, literacy, or library sciences to gain hands-on experience in a community library setting.

Under the supervision of the CEO/Head Librarian, the Student Librarian will:
? Greet and assist patrons in person and by phone in a courteous and professional manner.
? Provide basic tutoring and homework support for students in Grades K-8.
? Assist with library programs and activities for children and youth.
? Perform circulation duties, including checking materials in and out, renewing items, and managing library memberships.
? Reshelve books and perform shelf reading to ensure materials are in proper order.
? Provide assistance with public computer access, Wi-Fi, and the Libby app.
? Maintain tidiness and cleanliness of public and staff areas, including sweeping, dusting, and sanitizing high-touch surfaces.
? Assist with opening and closing procedures.
? Other duties as assigned by the CEO/Head Librarian.
Working Conditions
Physical Demands
The Student Librarian position has few physical demands but heavy lifting of boxes of books may be required from time to time, which could lead to muscle fatigue and strain.
Environmental Demands
The Student Librarian works in a temperature controlled, smoke-free environment. There is exposure to dust from the book shelves.
Sensory Demands
The Student Librarian is required to operate a computer and undertake detailed library/document searches which could lead to fatigue. Attention to detail is important.
Mental Demands
The Student Librarian must be able to work both independently and as part of a team and contribute to a positive working environment with library employees and township residents. Direct contact with the public is a major responsibility of this
Evaluations and Updates
The Student Librarian job description will be edited or updated with direct collaboration between the employee, the CEO and the Library Board. The Student Librarian will contribute to additions or removal of specific items, as the role of Student Librarian evolves to reflect the current needs of the Public Library and the greater rural community of Tyendinaga Township.
Experience, Skills and Educational Background
Currently enrolled in high school or post-secondary education.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience working with children is an asset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Basic computer and technology skills.
Reliable and responsible with good time management.
