About the Role - How you will Contribute to the Service:

to join our Human Resources Services team as a
Summer Student
from
May to August 2026
. The Human Resources Summer Student will provide support to the HR department by assisting with general administrative tasks and processes. This role will also involve contributing to the development and implementation of key HR initiatives and collaborating with internal teams to support ongoing workstreams aimed at delivering strategic HR objectives. The student will gain exposure to various areas of the human resources function, including staffing and recruiting, labour relations, compensation and benefits, organizational development, and health and safety. Responsibilities may include policy review, research, benchmarking, HRIS analytics, and reporting. This is an excellent opportunity to develop practical HR experience while contributing to meaningful projects within a dynamic public service environment.
What you will Bring to the Role:
Education, Certifications and Qualifications:
We are looking for a candidate who is enrolled in post-secondary education in a Human Resources Management or related program. The candidate must be returning to their program in September 2026.
Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills:
The candidate must also have strong computer skills in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), exceptional interpersonal skills, communication (written, verbal, listening skills), be highly organized and with a high degree of attention to detail and strong analytical skills. Our ideal candidate must possess strong integrity to maintain confidentiality.
Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational program enrollment, and a criminal background screen.

Hourly Rate:
This is a paid student position starting at $20.11 per hour for a four-month term (May to August) contract.
Working Hours

Summer Student
Selection Process and Projected Timelines:
Step 1: Apply Online -- December 3, 2025 to December 16, 2025

Mini Video Interview Submission:
Along with your resume and cover letter, please include a video submission introducing yourself, outlining your skills, knowledge and motivation for applying to your selected Summer Student Unit role, and describing the impact you believe you would make as a Summer Student with the Halton Regional Police Service. In your video, also identify two things you hope to gain from the summer experience if selected. Please note that your video submission should be 3-5 minutes in duration.
Step 2: Resume Screening -- December 16, 2025 to January 3, 2026
Step 3: Applicant Notifications -- January 6, 2026
. Applicants will be informed of their application status. Those selected to advance to the interview stage will receive an interview invitation.
Step 4: Behavioural Interviews -- Week of January 12 to January 22, 2026
Selected applicants will be invited to attend in-person behavioural interviews.
Step 5: Pre-Employment Checks -- Week of January 26, 2026
Pre-employment checks will be conducted for shortlisted candidates. These checks include a Security Check, Professional Reference checks, and any additional employment verifications relevant to the specific role.
Note:
The Security Check appointment must be completed in person.
Step 6: Decision Making -- Week of February 17, 2026

Step 7: Hire Date -- Week of May 4, 2026
