Student Assistant - TOX 844
The primary objective of this course is to present a comprehensive overview of the technical aspects of predicting, monitoring, and evaluating the effects of toxic substances in wildlife with a focus on aquatic systems. The class will cover all levels of organization from sub-cellular systems to whole ecosystems. It is designed to provide in-depth coverage of techniques and methods that are routinely used in the field of ecotoxicological sciences. The philosophy of this class is that students will learn by doing. Therefore, the class will be taught using a combination of theoretical (e.g. brief introductory lectures to each topic/method) and practical (e.g. laboratory experiments; student projects) elements. This will enable students to obtain a comprehensive and practical set of skills required during their future careers in academia, government, and/or private industry. Furthermore, the course will foster oral and written communication skills. Students will be exposed to materials, which will be useful in setting exposure standards and assessing hazards to (aquatic) ecosystems due to point or non-point releases of toxic substances.
Your general location of work will be in the Toxicology Centre and you will report to Dr. Markus Hecker.
