Student Assistant, HARVEST, University LibraryIn the appointment of Student Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities will be:Assisting with depositing research outputs such as articles and reports from USask authors into HARVEST (https://harvest.usask.ca/), USask\'s institutional repository, as part of a University Librarymediated deposit service. This will include:

  • Depositing items in HARVEST (metadata, organizing files, licensing)
  • Reviewing CVs, websites, and other sources to find articles and other items to deposit
  • Reviewing licensing and copyright agreements to determine various criteria enabling deposit
  • Using a template, communicating with faculty and staff to get correct versions of their files
  • Reviewing and editing spreadsheets of data for alerts and possibly batch deposit processes
  • Documenting and providing feedback on workflows
  • Tracking tasks and time
  • Administrative tasks associated with organizing files, contacts, and sources for deposits
  • Collaborating with other student assistant(s) to share deposit workload
  • May include occasional work on past deposits to make corrections, add DOIs, or bring metadata up to standard
Your location of work will be largely remote, with periodic trainings and meetings on campus in the Murray Library. You will report to Emily Hopkins (emily.hopkins@usask.ca).Required Number of Hours: Approx 10-12h/week in the Fall and Winter semesters pending student availability and budget; there may be opportunities for more hours in the summer.Duration of Employment: 1 September 2024 - 30 June 2025Qualifications (Skills and Abilities)
  • Candidates should be registered in a USask graduate program.
  • Basic familiarity with/interest in open access, scholarly publishing, sharing research output
  • Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office software such as Excel, and sharing files with OneDrive
  • HARVEST runs on DSpace software; we will provide training as we don\'t expect you to have used it before, but if you have used it or a similar platform (other repositories, other digital collections sites, even a web CMS) please mention those experiences in your cover letter
  • Comfortable working independently and reaching out for support when needed
  • Accuracy and attention to detail is necessary
Training in HARVEST depositing using DSpace, open access licensing, and copyright will be provided.To Apply:
