The RoleThe Student Assistant, CSIS Computer Lab assists students with learning software, networking, operating systems, and virtual machines in their courses by providing in-person (and/or online) peer tutoring. This software includes:\xc2\xb7 Cisco Packet Tracer;\xc2\xb7 Eclipse/IntelliJ IDEA (Java Programming);\xc2\xb7 File management in Windows;\xc2\xb7 Internet browsers, including but not limited to Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox;\xc2\xb7 Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point;\xc2\xb7 Oracle VirtualBox;\xc2\xb7 Ubuntu;\xc2\xb7 Visual Studio (C#);\xc2\xb7 Windows 10;\xc2\xb7 Windows Server;\xc2\xb7 Wireshark.
ResponsibilitiesAssists instructors and students in the CSIS labs (and/or online).
To Be Successful in this Role You Will Need\xc2\xb7 Must have effective English verbal communication skills;\xc2\xb7 Prefer to have remote/online working experience;\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Windows OS;\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Internet browsers, including but not limited to Internet Explorer, Chrome, Firefox;\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Visual Studio (C#) (for working in CSIS 1175 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point (for working in CSIS 1190 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on HTML (for working in CSIS1280 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on CSS (for working in CSIS1280 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on JavaScript (for working in CSIS1280 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Java programming (for working in CSIS 2175 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good working knowledge on Cisco Packet Tracer, Wireshark and Oracle VirtualBox (for working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab);\xc2\xb7 Basic working knowledge on Windows 10, Windows Server, and Ubuntu (for working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on Cisco network configuration and troubleshooting using packet tracer (for working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab);\xc2\xb7 Good knowledge on computer network fundamentals (for working in CSIS 2260/2270 lab); AND

  • Successfully completed:
1) CSIS1275 or CSIS2175, with a \xe2\x80\x9cB+\xe2\x80\x9d or higher grade;AND/OR2) Both of CSIS 2260 and CSIS 2270, with a \xe2\x80\x9cB+\xe2\x80\x9d or higher grade.Domestic students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:1. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term; OR2. The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term; OR3. The domestic student must be enrolled in, and maintain a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term; OR
4. The domestic student must have been enrolled in, and maintained, a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term.International students must meet ONE of the following criteria, to be eligible to work as a Student Assistant/Student Research Assistant:1. The international student is enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College, throughout the academic year; OR2. The international student, who is not a Douglas College student, but is an international student at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C., has a valid Study Permit that has the notation - \xe2\x80\x9cMay accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W). Must cease working if no longer meeting these criteria.\xe2\x80\x9d Proof of enrollment in full-time studies from the other post-secondary institution is required.An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work at Douglas College.Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions.
