Location: Vancouver, BC
Salary: $63,000 - $80,000
Candidate Profile
As a member of the Structural Restoration and Facade Team, you will be involved in all aspects of our projects including a balance of office and field work. You will work closely with our project engineers and senior leaders and you should expect a diverse range of projects including rehabilitation and restoration of existing buildings, repair of damaged buildings, small building additions, as well as structural design of building components. In all our projects, we work with our clients to develop solutions that promote the reduction of embodied carbon in buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Working on existing buildings with a focus on structural restoration and project management
  • Completing structural condition assessments including document reviews, field evaluations, technical analysis and preparing assessment reports
  • Carrying out structural analysis of existing building components subject to revised loading conditions.
  • Participating in client project requirement meetings and value analysis, including basic project costing
  • Preparing structural restoration drawings and technical specifications, as well as contract tender documents.
  • Assisting the Project Engineer with Construction Contract Administration including attending meetings during construction and completing field reviews of the work you design
  • Coordinating with other engineering and architectural disciplines to facilitate projects as prime consultant. This includes assisting the client in developing construction strategies for repair/upgrade work
  • Working closely within the project team environment, through the life cycle of a project from conceptual and preliminary stages of the design through to completion.
  • Following established quality control procedures
  • Secondary structural engineering including cladding, windows, curtain walls, glass canopies, guards, sunshades and other building components
  • Structural analysis of existing building components subject to revised loading conditions.
  • Structural design of new building components
  • Preparation of thermal calculations and reports for window performance (per NFRC 100)
  • Development of shop drawings for glazing and facade components
  • Field review to verify installation of building components
  • Client liaison
Professional Qualifications and Experience
Education:
  • Degree in civil engineering from accredited university
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-In-Training with EGBC
Experience:
  • 0 to 3 years previous experience in structural engineering or construction
Skills:
  • Inquisitive, clear thinker who can determine what work is required and who can draw rational conclusions from information available
  • Demonstrated and effective communication skills - both written and verbal
  • Team player with ability to work as part of a group or independently
  • Strong time management skills to successfully balance working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Fast learner with a desire to grow professionally and personally
  • Hard worker, ready to assume responsibility quickly and have fun at the same time
  • Experience with BIM/Revit as well as fall protection basics would be an asset.
  • Valid Canadian Driver's License
