Hatch, a full-service consultancy, is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Structural Engineer - Bridges to join the Highways & Bridges team in Calgary, Alberta.

Reporting to the Senior Project Engineer, as a Junior Structural Engineer - Bridges, you will be involved on a range of small to large-scale projects including public, high-profile projects. The role will be challenging, demanding, varied and offer fantastic opportunities for skill set and career development.

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Support and develop design drawings from sketches (determine appropriate scales, layout and need for specific details) and from concepts communicated by the engineering team for bridges and facilities for public and private infrastructure including roadways, heavy rail, light rail, pedestrian bridges, retaining walls, foundations, and buildings;
  • Working with other designers, project engineers and project managers in the execution and delivery of project requirements including drawings, technical specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, schedules, etc.;
  • Direct field involvement in provision of construction administration services including monitoring compliance of constructed works relative to design requirements; responding to Requests for Information; documentation of construction activities; processing of progress payments; quality assurance; etc.
  • Interface with clients and other project technical discipline leads, as required;
  • Comply with company quality control policies and procedures;
  • Provide leadership and direction to less experienced field, design, and administration support staff;
  • Provide support to other technical disciplines and offices, as required;
  • Provide support to business development including preparation of proposals;
  • Perform any other related duties that may contribute to the successful completion of projects.
You bring to the role:
  • Graduate Civil Engineer from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • P.Eng. or EIT registered in Alberta, or eligible for professional registration in Alberta with APEGA;
  • 2 to 8 years of proven consulting engineering experience with significant experience on bridge structures projects;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are a necessity;
  • Experience in CAD drafting, 3D modelling, and design of bridge projects;
  • Experience on Alberta Transportation, BC Ministry of Transportation, or City of Calgary bridge projects would be considered a strong asset;
  • Understanding of requirements of contract document package for construction including: drawings showing the requirements for construction of the design; specifications to define construction requirements;
  • Strong communication, coordination and organizational skills;
  • Ability to meet demanding schedules and adaptability to changing priorities is a valuable asset
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively support and contribute to a positive team environment.
