Structural Designer (Part-Time, On-Call, Independent Contractor)

UniversalPegasus International (UPI) is seeking a Structural Designer on a part-time, independent contractor basis to support drafting leads and project teams in the successful delivery of oil and gas and infrastructure projects. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who excels in structural design and is comfortable working within multidisciplinary teams to produce high-quality project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain civil/structural design deliverables, including 3D models and 2D detailed engineering drawings, to support project requirements.
Create, manipulate, and revise advanced and detailed drawings within the area of specialization using AutoCAD and relevant modeling software (CadWorks and Navisworks).
Assist with the development of design criteria, layout studies, MTOs, and scope of work for structural design and drafting activities.
Research and evaluate technical data; coordinate with engineers, clients, and vendors as necessary to complete assigned tasks.
Identify and communicate design changes and their impact on other disciplines.
Ensure adherence to company and client standards, maintaining quality and consistency across all deliverables.
Conduct preliminary QA/QC checks of drawings and models.
Support interdisciplinary coordination with mechanical, piping, electrical, and instrumentation teams.
Follow drafting standards, workflows, and corporate safety protocols.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Attributes:
Degree or Diploma in Drafting, Civil/Structural Engineering Technology, or related technical program; equivalent work experience considered.
Minimum 10 years' experience in civil/structural design, drafting, and modeling, preferably within an EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) environment.
Previous exposure to pipeline or facility projects preferred.
Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, CADWorx, and other relevant modeling software.
Strong knowledge of discipline-specific codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., AISC Steel Manual, NBCC and BCBC requirements).
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple deadlines and work independently.
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills (verbal and written).
Demonstrates a collaborative mindset and ability to build positive working relationships across disciplines.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Eligibility:
8+ years structural design experience.
Must be legally eligible to live and work in Canada.

Additional Requirements:
This is a part-time, on-call, independent contractor position, requiring a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Availability for a few hours per day during regular business hours is required.
