Join our Calgary office\'s Major Pipeline Project team as a highly skilled Stress Engineer. Be recognized as a technical authority, applying your extensive engineering knowledge to meaningful responsibilities. Utilizing your expertise in pipeline stress analysis is vital for the successful execution of upcoming projects. Reporting to the Calgary Office & Major Pipelines Manager, you will contribute significantly by overseeing multiple projects and mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities include leading stress engineering tasks, producing structural engineering loads, performing pipeline and facility calculations, and ensuring compliance with industry standards (CSA Z662, CSA B51/ASME B31.3, CSA Z245, CSA Z247). Additionally, you will participate in project coordination, process improvement and safety meetings, promoting a well-rounded experience.

Stress Engineer Role:

In this role you will be responsible for performance and delegation of duties, including but not limited to the following:

Internal Facing Services:

  • Lead the mainline and facility stress engineering related tasks including but not limited to; launcher/receiver sites, compressor station tie-ins, valve sites, mainline pipe, pipeline crossings etc.
  • Produce loads for the structural engineering team.
  • Perform various stress related calculations on pipeline and/or facility as required.
  • Authentication of stress procedures and reports as required.
  • Respond to project related inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Implement process improvements.
  • Check and approve junior engineering team member\'s time.
  • With assistance from project managers, coordinate, communicate, and delegate tasks to internal project team.
  • Review project related documentation, ensuring relevant documents are included and supplied to project teams.
  • Review scope of work to ensure project team is adequately prepared for project execution.
  • Adhering to company Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Adhering to company Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP).
  • Prepare and review technical proposals and reports.
  • With the assistance of departmental managers, assist in the preparation of cost/RFP estimates.
  • Assist in the hiring of additional engineering team members.
  • Participate in monthly field safety and office meetings.
  • Communicate with Office Manager and HSE department for project related safety requirements.
External Client Services:
  • Respond to client requests for engineering and/or construction services in a timely manner.
  • In conjunction with the project teams, work closely with the client to establish project requirements, project scope, timelines, job expectations and resource requirements.
  • Liaise with project, construction, land, and environment stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a project to ensure client service levels are met.
  • Attend client meetings representing the company, as required.
Training and Development:
  • Liaise with Office Manager to review engineering colleagues\' performance and identify training opportunities.
  • Leadership training and/or a willingness to further develop leadership skills through continuing professional development.
  • Provide mentorship and skill development for junior to intermediate staff.
Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering from a recognized university or college.
  • Preference will be given to those with a Professional Engineer designation, however those registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Association of Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as well as Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) may be considered.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSA Z662 and CSA B51/ASME B31.3/B31.8. Knowledge of CSA Z245 and CSA Z247 would be considered an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of both Autopipe and ABAQUS. Working knowledge of ANSYS and/or CAESAR II is considered an asset.
  • 6+ years of industry related stress experience.
  • Midstream oil and gas experience is considered an asset.
  • Some experience with python coding is considered an asset.
