Street Sweeper Operator

. This position plays a key role in maintaining clean and safe streets, parking lots, and work sites. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-focused, and comfortable operating heavy equipment in a variety of conditions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate street sweeper equipment, hand tools, leaf blowers or other related equipment.
Remove garbage, debris, trash, and other materials from street surfaces and sidewalks using hand tools such as brooms or shovels.
and other refuse and dump loads at designated sites
Operate street cleaning equipment such as street sweepers or other vehicles equipped with rotating brushes to remove sand, litter and trash
Operate trucks equipped with apparatuses for spreading sand, salt or abrasives on roadways
Check, lubricate, refuel and clean equipment and report any malfunctions to supervisor.
Notify supervisors of any equipment malfunctions, needed repairs or if the area requires additional attention.
Assist with other duties as assigned like snow removal, painting projects or special event set up/clean up.
Qualifications:
Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License and be able to travel to sites across the region, class 3 is an asset.
In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, terminology, equipment and safety regulations
Proficient in the operation of various excavation equipment
Strong communication skills
Flexibility with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed
Landscaping, irrigation, maintenance, and installation
Proper operation and maintenance of construction equipment
Technical Skills:
Understand site layout and organization, grading plans, and excavation requirements.
Capable of reading and understanding blueprints, project drawings and specifications.
Blind spot and spatial awareness.
Understand load stability and limitations of the machine.
Legal loading of trucks - from stock pile & in-situ.
Knowledge of safe excavation slopes.
Understanding of handling different soil types in wet & dry weather.
Understanding of grades.
Access and egress of site for trucks.
Work around utilities (buried & overhead).
Knowledgeable with a proven safety record of working around existing utilities.
Ability to work long hours in all weather conditions
Computer skills (knowledge of SiteDocs an asset)
Mass excavation trimming for shoring
Road building - Civil works
Slab grade preparation
Ground Disturbance - level 2 is an asset.
First aid, confined space, and fall protection training is an asset.
Interpersonal Skills:
Strong communication skills to effectively work with team members and supervisors, and to coordinate operations and minimize disruptions.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing job site conditions.
Self-motivated with the ability to perform well without supervision.
Strong understanding and respect for safety guidelines and protocol.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to remain focused and productive in a high-pressure environment.
Commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential hazards.
Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Able to lead team to effectively and efficiently complete tasks
