Strathcona County Next Gen is a community initiative led by multiple Strathcona County partners. It was developed as a response to the 2019 Youth Needs and Assets Assessment. Strathcona County Next Gen is an opportunity for Next Gen (self-identified youth and young adults) to provide leadership and feedback to work together to realize change for Next Gen in Strathcona County to thrive. In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain advocacy experience, build a professional community network and receive mentorship. The Next Gen Ambassador will work collaboratively with the Next Gen Co-chair Committee in the role of ?connector? between Strathcona County Next Gen, Next Gen serving organizations in Strathcona County, and municipal government. The individual in this role will assist the committee in furthering the work of the Next Gen initiative in Strathcona County. Strathcona County Next Gen Ambassador Positions: one Status: Temporary Part-Time ? 10-15 hours per week June ? August, 8-12 hours per week from September 2023-March 2024 Salary Range: $17.00 per hour The key responsibilities of this position will include:

  • Build and support the Next Gen Leadership Group and Next Gen network, communications and events
  • Build awareness of the presence of Strathcona?s Next Gen network and increase participation in Next Gen events, opportunities and initiatives.
  • Reach out to local high schools (leadership groups, student councils) to engage them in these conversations
  • Assist in building strategies and offering opportunities to reach out to the young adult population of Strathcona County, which can be a little harder to engage
  • Assist in the promotion and growth of a Next Gen Leadership Team ? to work collaboratively in leading the events and communications out to the Next Gen population; facilitates collaboration between Next Gen and youth serving organizations and provides accessible opportunities for Next Gen in Strathcona County
  • Assist in the promotion and growth of a Next Gen network ? a group of like-minded individuals working together to support the activities of the Leadership Team, volunteering to assist at Next Gen events and initiatives, promoting involvement, sharing information, attending Next Gen events and learning and engaging with their community
  • Work with Next Gen website coordinator and social media group to more effectively utilize various forms of social media and print materials to inform youth and young adults of events, initiatives and opportunities they can engage in
  • Help identify gaps and needs and be the voice that helps to convey this information to our youth serving organizations to assist in improving the seamless delivery of supports for youth and young adults.
  • Be present for, and represent the Next Gen voice, and interests at community meetings.
The successful candidate will have: ? Minimally High School diploma. Some post secondary education is an asset ? Prior experience working or volunteering in local community or youth engagement is an asset. ? Demonstrated good communication skills (written and oral). ? Ability to facilitate groups also an asset. ? Ability to function independently and as part of a team. ? Access to vehicle an asset; some rural transportation required as part of the position ? A Security Clearance Check and Child Welfare Record Check no more than 6 months old are conditions of hire. We are looking specifically for candidates who can work a flexible schedule that includes both some daytime/school hours, evenings and week-ends. **All communication throughout the entire staffing process, including email correspondence may be used in the assessment of qualifications.
