About this Opportunity
Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) is a multi-partner initiative accelerating the global push for resilient and equitable clean energy solutions through local, community-based collaborations.


With support from the Canada First Research Excellence Fund, ACET is a partnership between Royal Roads University, University of British Columbia, Universite du Quebec a Trois-Rivieres and Yukon University, led by the University of Victoria.

The salary range for this position is:




Recruitment range: $91,290 - $100,665 starting sala

Performance range: $118,764

salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases. Job Summary
Mandate:

The Strategic Lead, Research Culture and People (SLPRC) drives transformative change to embed equity, inclusion, and cultural integrity across ACET's multi-institution research network. This senior role leads strategic and systems-level initiatives to cultivate a research environment that is inclusive, respectful, high-performing, and fully aligned with Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) expectations. Through deep collaboration with ACET leadership, partner institutions, UVic's Human Resources and Equity and Human Rights (EQHR) offices, and other central supports, the Strategic Lead advances ACET's Code of Conduct, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Action Plan, and related compliance frameworks. The position holds accountability for shaping and sustaining a research culture rooted in equity, shared values, and collaborative excellence.


The role leads the development and implementation of systems-level strategies to foster equitable practices, proactively prevent and address conduct issues, and embed equity-lens approaches throughout ACET's research design and execution. The Strategic Lead drives institutional change by chairing ACET's Code of Conduct Committee, providing director mentorship and advice to the ACET team and researchers, overseeing ACET resolution processes, and directing comprehensive training and capacity-building initiatives for researchers, students, and staff. This position ensures consistent application of inclusive standards across the research network and holds accountability for cultivating a respectful, high-performing research culture.


Objectives:


Deliver measurable progress on ACET's EDI Action Plan and Code of Conduct, ensuring compliance with CFREF requirements. Build and sustain inclusive, high-functioning research teams through training, coaching, and knowledge sharing. Integrate equity-lens and community-engaged approaches into ACET research project design, review, and approvals. Develop, track, and report on performance indicators related to research culture and inclusion. Job Requirements
A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to a graduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., organizational development, equity studies, public administration, or the social sciences), plus five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in organizational development, equity and inclusion, research culture, or systems change.


Experience:


Experience directly facilitating respectful workplace processes, conflict resolution, mediation Experience in design and facilitation of equity, leadership and organizational development Experience supervising staff or leading cross-functional teams in a complex organizational environment/multi-institutional environment. Experience managing complex budgets and contracts across multiple organizations. Experience preparing reports for funders, governance bodies, or other external oversight Familiarity with post-secondary governance, collective agreements, and external funding compliance. Technical writing experience (proposals, reports and summaries) Experience working in or with Indigenous, equity-seeking, and community-based organizations is an asset. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:


Strong understanding of inclusive leadership, equity-lens design, and collaborative research practices. Demonstrated ability to work across institutions and disciplines with diplomacy and integrity. Skilled facilitator with experience in mediation and conflict resolution. Background in coaching and leadership development, and expertise in fostering a positive workplace culture focused on engagement and inclusion. Knowledge of Indigenous research protocols and engagement practices is an asset. Knowledge of employment equity legislation, human rights code requirements, and related policies. Ability to develop and track performance indicators, analyze data, and prepare reports. Experience in organizational change management approaches and best practices, with formal certification Experience with policy review and revision. Experience designing and implementing fair and equitable hiring practices, onboarding and professional development Ability to develop and track performance indicators, analyze data, and prepare funder reports. Knowledge of Indigenous research protocols and engagement practices is an asset.

Working Conditions:


Some travel required to partner institutions. May involve occasional non-standard hours to meet deadlines or support events.
