Job Summary

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for the stewardship of provincial Crown land and ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land-based resources. The Ministry works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies.

Reporting to the Crown Lands Section Head, the Senior Authorizations Specialist is accountable for making natural resource authorizations decisions and providing recommendations on complex applications under the Land Act.

Job Requirements:

  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a resource management field, plus 2 years of related experience; OR
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a resource management field, plus 3 years of related experience; OR
  • Diploma in a resource management field, plus 5 years of related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
  • Experience in reviewing or producing applications/proposals in natural resource management.
  • Experience supervising, leading, coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Experience with Crown Land Authorizations and the Land Act.
  • Experience with land title conveyancing, interpreting land surveys, real estate appraisal and administration of real estate interests.
  • Experience in engaging with First Nations, including consultation on proposals which received opposition by First Nations.
  • Experience evaluating natural resource applications and reviewing proposals.
  • Experience working with clients on natural resource authorizations, including dispute resolution and conflict management.

Provisos
  • Valid B.C. driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
