Job Summary

The Ministry\xe2\x80\x99s Compliance and Enforcement Branch is responsible for delivering province wide compliance and enforcement services in support of Ministry programs. The Indigenous Relations and Restorative Justice Officer provides leadership and expertise for developing relationships and partnerships with Indigenous peoples to ensure government to government co-operation for environmental enforcement related activities. This includes the development and negotiation of enforcement MOUs and protocols as the Ministry moves towards reconciliation along with the continually emerging Rights and Title cases and the implications for the Ministry in enforcing mandated legislation. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships, relationships and collaboration with Community and Restorative Justice Program(s) matters with other levels of government, NGOs and partner organizations. Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s Degree or Diploma in a relevant discipline. Relevant disciplines include, but are not limited to: forestry, resource management, biology, environmental science, communications, agrology, planning, archaeology, and anthropology; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training may also be considered.
  • Experience managing conflict involving multiple individuals with diverse perspectives and interests.


Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • those who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, M\xc3\xa9tis or Inuit);
  • recent (within 5 years) experience leading consultations and/or participating in negotiations with First Nations;
  • recent (within 5 years) operational experience in natural resource management;
  • experience in natural resource law enforcement;
  • experience working with Indigenous peoples and/or communities in Canada and participating in consultation with First Nations.


Provisos:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid BC Class 5 Driver\xe2\x80\x99s Licence, or equivalent.
  • Have successfully completed Occupational First Aid Level 1 or equivalent training.
  • Willing and able to travel and work in remote Indigenous communities.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and challenging terrain.
  • Willing and able to operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to: off road vehicles and boats (do not have to have certification at this time, but must be willing and able to get certification to operate).
