Key Responsibilities
Instrument Sterilization & Processing
Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols
Package instruments for sterilization using proper procedures (e.g., using pouches, cassettes, autoclave indicators)
Operate and monitor sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, ultrasonic cleaners)
Maintain sterilization logs and documentation to meet regulatory standards
Operatory Turnover
Clean and disinfect treatment rooms between patients
Set up and restock operatories with appropriate instruments, supplies, and materials
Dispose of single-use items and biohazard waste properly
Inventory & Supply Management
Monitor levels of sterilization supplies (e.g., gloves, masks, disinfectants, sterilization pouches)
Restock and order sterilization-related materials as needed
Ensure sterilization room and equipment are organized and fully stocked
Equipment Maintenance
Perform routine checks and maintenance on sterilization equipment
Report malfunctions or needed repairs to appropriate personnel
Ensure all equipment is functioning safely and effectively
Compliance & Infection Control
Adhere to infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines
Comply with workplace safety and regulatory standards (e.g., WHMIS, IPAC, OSHA/CSA)
Participate in continuing education and training for safety and infection control procedures
Team Support
Assist clinical staff and dental assistants as needed
Support the dental team with general duties (e.g., helping move equipment, organizing trays)
Foster a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patients and team members
