Steel Structure Takeoff & Estimator

to join our team.

Key Responsibilities

Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings to perform accurate

material takeoffs

for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, and related components. Prepare detailed

cost estimates

, including materials, fabrication, subcontracting, equipment, transportation, and installation. Prepare

RFIs

, clarify missing or conflicting information, and communicate with engineers/GCs. Analyze project specifications, tender documents, and bid requirements. Work closely with the design, drafting, project management, and production teams to ensure alignment between estimating and execution. Maintain organized records of takeoffs, quotes, pricing, and vendor information. Assist in value engineering proposals when needed. Participate in bid reviews and prepare final quotation packages. Update pricing databases and ensure estimates follow company standards.

Skills & Qualifications

1-3 years of experience in

structural steel estimating

or takeoff work (preferred). Strong understanding of

steel fabrication

, erection, and industry terminology. Ability to read and interpret

structural/architectural drawings

and specifications. Experience with takeoff or estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, Tekla, SDS2, ProEst, Planswift, or similar). Strong math, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage deadlines and work on multiple bids simultaneously. Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and general computer skills.

Nice to Have

Experience in steel fabrication shops or erection companies. Background in engineering, drafting, construction management, or related technical fields. Knowledge of Canadian building codes and industry standards (CISC, CSA).
