The number ONE job of The Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada is to ensure the quality and safety of oral health care through standards, accreditation, and continuous improvement.. The CDAC is the body responsible for accrediting dental, dental specialty, dental residency, dental hygiene, and dental assisting education programs in Canada.

The Position:

The Standard Development Manager position is critically important to CDAC because you will be key person ensuring that oral health educational standards are developed and implemented to promote quality and safety in oral health education.. The Standards Development Manager will be responsible for overseeing the continuous improvement, maintenance, and development of the standards that underpin our accreditation process. You will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure our standards remain relevant, rigorous, and aligned with current best practices and regulatory requirements. You will develop, revise and disseminate CDAC educational standards for the oral health professions. You will play a crucial role in shaping the future of oral health education in Canada by ensuring our standards remain at the forefront of excellence.

Your Responsibilities:

Standards Development and Maintenance:

• Lead the development of new standards across the professions and support the subsequent periodic review of accreditation standards for dentistry, dental specialists, hygiene, and assisting
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure standards reflect the latest evidence-based practices, regulatory updates, and emerging trends in the field
• Ensure that all accreditation standards remain clear, measurable, and applicable across educational settings
• Identify and incorporate feedback from site visits, audits, and accreditation assessments to refine and update standards

Stakeholder Engagement:

• Engage with oral health professionals, educators, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to gather input on the effectiveness and impact of current standards
• Facilitate workshops, surveys, and consultations to inform standard changes, revisions and updates

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

• Ensure that the standards align with national best practices and meet the requirements of international reciprocity agreements, regulations, and accreditation requirements
• Monitor the implementation of standards and track their impact on oral healthcare education programs to identify areas for improvement

Training and Guidance:

• Provide training and support to internal teams and external stakeholders on the interpretation and application of accreditation standards
• Develop guidance materials and resources to assist educational programs in meeting accreditation requirements

Committee Management:

• Work with the standards committee to implement changes and updates to standards and recommend changes to the board for approval
• Develop relevant ad hoc committees of subject matter experts in the development of new standards and revisions.

What makes you the Ideal Candidate?

• University degree in Healthcare Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred
• Extensive experience (5+ years) in dental education or a related area with knowledge of accreditation processes
• Strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation frameworks within the oral or related health sector
• Proven experience in developing and reviewing standards or guidelines, preferably in a healthcare or professional services setting
• Strong background in managing complex workflows, policy documents, and demonstrated competence in leading teams through change
• Ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including oral health professionals, regulatory bodies, and industry associations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to simplify complex information and develop clear, actionable standards
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Superior organizational skills with outstanding ability to attend to details and meet tight deadlines
• Tact and diplomacy in interactions with members, volunteers, and other stakeholders
• Advanced Microsoft Office Suite (E.g., Word, PowerPoint)
• Attention to detail and a passion for continuous improvement
• Bilingualism is considered an asset

Desirable Skills:

• Knowledge of accreditation processes and quality assurance practices
• Familiarity with current trends and challenges in the oral healthcare industry
• Experience in policy development, research, or clinical guideline creation
