About the role
The Staff Supervisor, Finance & Accounting is a Senior Professional who is a highly organized people leader and possesses strong knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and budgeting. You will supervise the COHO accounting team, managing daily operations, and ensuring financial reporting accuracy and efficiency. You will play a vital role in our financial operations and will provide guidance, direction, and mentorship to the Finance & Accounting team.

What you'll do
As a Staff Supervisor, Finance & Accounting, you will lead a dedicated team of accounting professionals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, efficient budgeting and compliance with regulatory standards. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Supervising staff accountants and administrative personnel to ensure departmental objectives are met, including onboarding, task assignment and mentorship
Assisting in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, forecasts and financial analysis
Analyzing financial data and monitoring budget vs. actual performance, supporting budget preparation and offering recommendations to meet financial goals
Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
Preparing financial reports and statistical summaries, including tracking annual events
Overseeing year-end operations and supervising month-end and year-end closing processes
Supporting special projects and financial analysis tasks assigned by the Director, Finance and Accounting
Recommending and implementing improvements to templates, specifications and software tools
Monitoring performance of accounting of accounting personnel
Attending client meetings, including those outside of core working hours
Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, Finance & Accounting or the COO in their absence
What you bring
Post-secondary degree in Accounting or Finance or an equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience
Not less than ten (10+) years of directly relevant experience, including at least five (5) years' experience in supervisory capacity
Thorough understanding of the GAAP and financial accounting principles; solid knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting principles, laws and regulations
Strong team management skills and ability to define priorities
Excellent analytical skills to manage large amounts of data
Excellent spoken and written English, including proofreading skills
Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy
Technological proficiency in accounting software (Sage 300) as well as MS Office Suite of applications with advanced Excel skills
Accounting certification/designation (for example CPA) is a plus
Experience with or knowledge of housing co-ops and associated software (Arcori etc.) is surely an asset
Excellent interpersonal skills, including judgement, tact, integrity and patience
Proven leadership ability
Demonstrated ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Positive attitude, ability to adapt to change, and superior sense of accountability and responsibility over assigned objectives, outcomes, and records
Highly organized, with excellent planning and time management skills
