Our Corporate Services Department is seeking a talented, detail-oriented individual to join our team.

Reporting to the Assistant City Solicitor, the Staff Solicitor (Development) is responsible for preparing, negotiating, reviewing and approving complex land development documents, agreements and commercial contracts. The Staff Solicitor (Development) is also responsible for preparing, negotiating and reviewing purchase and sale agreements, leases and licences and oversee completion of land acquisitions/dispositions. An incumbent will have the opportunity to draft and provide legal advice on complex development agreements and structures (e.g. mixed-use developments, air space & phased strata subdivisions). In addition, the Staff Solicitor (Development) also provides guidance to administrative personnel engaged in legal and clerical functions, and performs related work as required.

Qualifications include a Bachelor of Law (i.e. LL.B ) or Juris Doctor (i.e. JD) from a recognized law school along with current membership, in good standing, with the Law Society of British Columbia. A minimum of 5 years of current experience in the practice of law is required, together with solid experience in land development (rezoning and subdivision), real estate transactions, leases and commercial contracts, and legal drafting. Thorough knowledge of the policies, rules, regulations and legal requirements governing the work and of the City as it relates to the work. Alongside the knowledge of Land Title Act, Local Government Act, Community Charter, related legislation and knowledge of client management techniques. This position requires an incumbent to have the ability to provide sound legal advice in a logical and concise manner; to provide guidance and lead the work of staff; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Experience with myLTSA, BCOnline and legal research resources. Driver\xe2\x80\x99s License for the Province of British Columbia is required.
