The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is the largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital in Canada, as well as one of the world\'s leading research centres in its field. Reporting to the Senior Scientist, Education and working closely with the Director, Clinical Research, the Staff Scientist will support research in the Education department and function to support a core infrastructure to engage people with lived experience (PWLE) and families across the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute.

The Staff Scientist will be a recognized expert in the area of engagement of PWLE and families. The role will support research, innovation, training, education and infrastructure to engage people with lived experience across CAMH Research. This role will support integration of engagement efforts across the institution with a focus on best practices for research engagement, in alignment with the One CAMH strategic plan. The Staff Scientist will work with and be supported by the CAMH Education Research Lab to help advance education scholarship and innovation at CAMH. The successful candidate will support the Campbell Family Mental Health Research Institute core infrastructure by selecting and designing research methods, developing and providing training on engagement practices, supporting the development of infrastructure, including evaluation of engagement and overseeing and supporting the collection of both qualitative and quantitative data related to engagement activities. The incumbent will provide mentorship to research staff and learners to achieve research and project engagement goals and enhance CAMH\xe2\x80\x99s reputation in the field of engagement of PWLE. This role is located at 1001 Queen Street West.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the development of a core strategy to engage PWLE across all research
  • Advancing CAMH\xe2\x80\x99s mission, aligned with One CAMH strategic plan, to develop and sustain best practices for engagement of PWLE and families in research
  • Lead scholarship and research on the impact of engagement and initiatives and support the dissemination of impact and identify opportunities for scale and spread
  • Pursue external opportunities that present viable funding opportunities, including peer-reviewed or provincial/federal grants to support ongoing research as well as further development of core infrastructure
  • Prepare and deliver content for publications and presentations at academic meetings and conferences (first, senior and other authorships) Develop and deliver training on best practices, aligned with necessary regulations
  • Mentorship of students and trainees
  • Provide mentorship to researchers on engagement and support the development of methodologies and engagement plans
  • Act as a representative on committees and advisory groups and provide regular reports to executive leadership, as required
  • Monitor program quality and effectiveness including outcomes and impact and oversee the implementation of strategies for improvement
  • Ensure development and use of appropriate mechanisms to measure and evaluate performance, processes, and outcomes
  • Represent CAMH as an expert in the area of engagement of PWLE and develop research collaborations and partnerships, both internal and external to CAMH
  • Collaborate and support strategic initiatives across CAMH portfolios, including the Health Equity Office, research programs and institutes, Education and clinical programs
Qualifications

PhD in Education or related discipline, from a recognized institution, with a focus on engagement of PWLE and families. The candidate will have an appointment at the University of Assistant professor or higher. At least 5 years of research experience leading projects with engagement is required. The successful applicant will have superior interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in change management and process implementation. Demonstrated knowledge of design, implementation, and evaluation of engagement research activities is required. Demonstrated experience with curriculum development, instructional design, evaluation methodology is preferred. A proven track record and aptitude in scientific publishing and securing external funding is required. Experience supervising and overseeing staff and students is preferred. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and the academic community is required.

Please Note: This full-time, permanent position is NOT part of any bargaining unit.
