Team

ServiceNow Research does both fundamental and applied research to futureproof AI-powered experiences. We are a group of researchers, applied scientists, and developers who lay the foundations, research, experiment, and de-risk AI technologies that unlock new work experiences in the future. Our Large Language Model (LLM) lab aims to advance the responsible development of general-purpose AI models, particularly Large Language Models. The lab takes the lead in open-science and open-governance initiatives, such as BigCode, in which it develops large language models from scratch, conducts cutting-edge research on them, and establishes responsible data governance practices.

Role

In collaboration with research scientists in the world-class BigCode core team, you will pursue research projects on foundation models for language and code. You will be expected to:

• Build and manage end-to-end data pipelines and large datasets.
• Train large models on multi-node GPU clusters.
• Present your work in research papers of which you will become a coauthor.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you have:

• An MSc in deep learning and several years of experience as a research engineer, or several years of experience in a similar role;
• A curiosity-driven mindset, and an interest in fundamental research;
• Background in computer science, distributed computing, and deep learning;
• Experience with building and managing end-to-end data pipelines, from data extraction and transformation to loading and storage;
• Hands-on experience with big data processing frameworks, such as Hadoop or Spark;
• Deep understanding of distributed computing and performance optimization techniques;
• Expertise in developing and deploying applications on cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure;
• Understanding of various data storage solutions, including relational databases, NoSQL databases, and data warehouses;
• Ability to work on large projects and take initiative;
• Experience in rapid prototyping and the ability to quickly validate whether a certain direction is worth pursuing;
• A readiness to deal with uncertainty and frequent project pivots;
• Ability to communicate experimental results and research findings to a research audience, in written and verbal forms;
• A \xe2\x80\x9cgetting things done\xe2\x80\x9d mindset.
