Staff Psychologist, Department of Psychology and Health Studies

Primary Purpose: The Department of Psychology and Health Studies\' Ph.D. program in Clinical Psychology is undergoing a multiyear expansion. This will include increases to the student body, additional tenure-track faculty, a CRC Tier II Chair in Digital Mental Health Interventions, and the addition of 2 Staff Psychologists. The Staff Psychologists will 1) provide direct services within the Department\'s training clinic, and 2) play a major role in supervising the clinical placements of students. The clinical psychology program was established in 1971 and has been continuously accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) since 1990. It provides generalist training, for later specialization at the post-doctoral level.

Nature of Work: The primary duty of the Staff Psychologists will be to assist the program in achieving its goals and objectives, which are highly influenced by CPA accreditation standards. This will primarily involve serving as clinical supervisors for student placements. Staff Psychologists may also supervise clinical components of assessment and intervention courses and supervise junior faculty while they are provisionally registered. Staff Psychologists will also be expected to provide some direct services. Staff Psychologists will play a role in enhancing the profile of the training clinic, generating referrals to the clinic, and supporting the program in meeting CPA accreditation standards. The program seeks a team capable of providing services to children, adolescents, and adults.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities: The Staff Psychologist position(s) will report to the Department Head. The individual(s) must have the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and must exercise sound judgment, be comfortable in a team environment, and have well-developed communication and management skills.

Working within the University of Saskatchewan Psychology Clinic, these positions will share the responsibility of:

  • Providing clinical supervision of student training as part of formal coursework or as a practicum placement
  • Providing direct clinical service provision on behalf of the Psychology Clinic
  • Monitoring and evaluating student performance
  • Providing clinical supervision of junior faculty prior to registration
  • Ensuring clinic services adhere to provincial and national standards
  • Generating and managing clinic referrals
  • Forming and maintaining relationships with third parties (e.g., health regions and insurance companies)
  • Keeping accurate and timely of clinical service provision
  • Provision of didactics as part of clinical seminar or, under special circumstances, could involve teaching formal coursework
Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from a CPA accredited program or by a program accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA). Completion of a CPA or APA accredited predoctoral internship or residency.

Qualifications: Registered, or eligible for registration, with the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists. Authorized Practice Endorsement (APE) within the Saskatchewan College of Psychologists.

Experience: Training and/or supervised experience in providing clinical supervision. Experience with administrative and organizational duties involved in managing a clinical practice, including generating and managing referrals, forming and maintaining relationships with relevant third parties (e.g., health regions, insurance companies), appropriate and ethical record keeping, and billing.

Skills: The ability to work independently and collaboratively. The ability to adhere to ethical and professional standards of practice. The ability to provide evidence-based psychological services, including assessment and treatment. The ability to provide clinical supervision to students working with a range of populations and presenting concerns. The Department seeks a team capable of providing services across the lifespan.
