As a part of the Facilities Engineering, Process, Integrity and Operations Technology (FEPIOT) team and reporting to the Director, Operations Technology, the Staff Process Control Engineer/Technologist is responsible for engaging with the Upstream Business partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities for improvement within the business and provide effective solutions in the areas of Operations Technology including: Systems and Cyber Security, Optimization Engineering, Production Information Management and Measurement.

This is a Calgary based role with occasional travel as required.

Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate conversions with the business to identify improvement opportunities that may use OT systems, functions, technologies, or solutions
  • Align solutions that facilitate change or improvements that are consistent and repeatable across all of the Upstream business
  • Ensure all opportunities account for and are optimized between capital costs and operating costs to minimize total cost of ownership
  • Have the maintenance integrity and performance of OT Systems front of mind
  • Coordinate support to stakeholders for OT opportunity Identification
  • Represent OT when defining framework, processes, and new hardware and software implementations
  • Perform Project Manager role for Operations Technology managed projects as assigned
    • Manage/support within the scope of Operations technology deliverables for all project stages from Opportunity Assessment to Project Closeout as indicated on the Cenovus PME Governance Framework
    • Review deliverables to ensure projects can be delivered safely on schedule and on budget
    • Assess project\xe2\x80\x99s needs for technical resources to engage and coordinate appropriate subject matter expert input
    • Exercise considerable judgement and initiative to interpret company policy/specs, regulatory requirements and industry best practices in the planning and implementation of work assignments
    • Make decisions regarding highly technical and complex issues within the discipline
    • Ensure project compliance with Cenovus specifications
  • Promote and Improve Operations Risk Management Activities (Alarm Performance, Loop Health, Advanced Process Control, HMI Optimization)
  • Promote and support control system modernization and life cycle management activities


Qualifications:
  • Must be willing to work in the office in downtown Calgary
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • APEGGA Professional Engineer or ASET Certified Engineering Technologist
  • Minimum of 12+ years of related experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation an asset
  • Strong Process Control Engineering background and experience is required
  • Demonstrated experience in defining business needs and requirements gathering an asset
  • Working knowledge and experience in the design, maintenance, and operation of DCS, PLC, SCADA Systems and Architecture and Cyber Security
  • Clear Understanding of Engineering Management of Change Principles
  • Familiar with relevant regulatory directives pertaining to Operations Technology and Measurement
  • Understanding of the OT and IT interrelationship including the delineation and similarities between each group
  • Experience and understanding of Operations Safe Work processes and day to day activities
  • Experience with facility maintenance activities from an OT perspective
  • Familiar with SAGD Operations and Facility Operations
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively and convey technical information simply and concisely
  • Ability to support multiple projects and initiatives with shifting priorities
  • Demonstrated project and time management skills including estimating and business case development
