About You
The ideal applicant is a
Licensed Practical Nurse
(with NSCN), who is
committed to their practice as a health clinic nurse, and are dedicated to providing the best care and support possible.
comfortable working in a mental health/disability support setting;
willing to take on the additional responsibility of serving as a Supervisor (outside of business hours) for all staff.
an advocate for patients as well as a firm believer in person-centered philosophy of care.
Preference will be given to applicants with similar experience in community-based care, mental health and addictions, or disability support programs. Additionally, experience working as a PSW/CCA/etc. would be a considerable asset.
Benefits & Compensation
The Sunset Community pays all Staff Nurse/Supervisors (LPN) at the top of the provincial scale, with an additional $2000 per year for their supervisory responsibilities (included in hourly wage). In addition, we offer shift premiums of $4.00 per hour for working evenings and weekends, which stack to $8.00 on weekend nights. This position also includes an optional Pension Plan, with shared contributions of 17.04% of earnings (via NSHEPP).
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day health clinic nursing services, such as administering medication and insulin, administering catheters, wound maintenance, urinalysis, and drawing blood.
Provide effective, empathetic, and timely leadership to members of the Health and Holistic Services team by providing guidance and education;
Provide comprehensive assessment of residents' needs through nursing process in assessing, planning, and evaluation to ensure the accurate collection and analysis of data, and the appropriateness of the goals and objectives supported by the Health and Holistic Services team;
Provide and/or direct and monitor the provision of appropriate nursing interventions;
Monitor and evaluate the supportive care provided to reach resident and make appropriate and timely adjustments to support plans as warranted;
Complete documentation of all aspects of care and completion of reports as required by the facility (i.e. communication and incident reports);
Work with an interdisciplinary team to deliver in-house health services (including physician clinics, psychiatric consults, OT, Dietitian, etc.)
Other duties, as assigned by the Manager, Health Services or the Director, Health & Holistic Services*
These position responsibilities are an overview of the role, related duties can be assigned from time to time as they may become necessary to the operation of the facility.
Shifts are primarily 12-hours (0700-1900, 1900-0700). Occasional 8-hour shifts may be required for training or operational demands.
Required Qualifications
Successful completion of a Diploma in Practical Nursing (or equivalent) from a recognized and accredited institution.
Must be licensed as a
Practical Nurse
with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (or willing to obtain).
Excellent Communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
Excellent Nursing assessment skills
High attention to detail and demonstrated effective use of problem-solving and decision-making skills
Other Requirements:
A current and original copy of a Vulnerable Persons Record Check is required upon the start of your employment
Good judgement in the supervision of staff and solving problems;
Self-directed, with the ability to work independently
