About this opportunity:

Cenovus is currently looking for a Staff Geophysicist to join our Conventional Development team located in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Conventional Geoscience, the Staff Geophysicist will be accountable to work in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure reservoir development plans are optimized to meet Cenovus\xe2\x80\x99s business needs. This role will also enable the successful execution of our development plans and support our long-term strategy of being a top tier gas producer in Canada.

Responsibilities:


  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Geologists, Geophysicists, and Engineers to support capital program planning and execution.

  • Conduct geophysical mapping and characterization for high grading inventory, well planning and execution lookbacks.

  • Apply geo-mechanical evaluations for induced seismicity assessments to support drilling, completion, and disposal operations. Assess and make recommendations on sale, trade or lease of Cenovus proprietary seismic data.

  • Evaluate business development opportunities such as acquisitions and divestitures, mineral land tenure expiries and crown land sale acquisitions.

  • Contribute to Cenovus\xe2\x80\x99s subsurface community by participating in peer reviews, technical assurance and knowledge sharing events.

  • Progress and support capital programs through technical reviews, regulatory approvals, well planning and post execution evaluations. Generate new ideas and opportunities to develop resource in core operating areas.


Qualifications:

  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Completion of a bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science or geophysics.

  • Member of APEGA or another Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required.

  • Minimum of 12+ years of related industry experience. Experience with a wide range of geoscience software including SeisWare, Petrel and Hampson-Russell.

  • Strong skills in 3D seismic interpretation & visualization, seismic attribute analysis & other specialized geophysical interpretative techniques.

  • Sound knowledge of geology and familiar with a good understanding of clastic depositional systems. Previous working experience in the Western Canadian Deep Basin is an asset.
