Reporting to the Administrator, the PSW Educator will be accountable for the clinical/operational orientation, training, and education of PSW's at RGH and will practice in accordance with regulatory standards and legislation, as well as RGH policies and procedures. The PSW Educator will have the competence to effectively deliver training and education for staff in all clinical/operational areas as outlined in the education plans, as developed. The PSW Educator will educate with an emphasis on Resident Abuse and Neglect utilizing GPA techniques and strategies, in addition a multidisciplinary approach. Building frontline capacity with understanding the roles PSW's are accountable for not only around nursing but with respect to physio, environmental, laundry, housekeeping, food, and nutrition services and programming.

Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker from an approved college or private institution meeting the standards established by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, National Association of Career Colleges, as per established provincial requirements
Continues to grow and develop through attendance at in services, seminars, workshops, etc.
Demonstrated working experience with the elderly in a health care setting, knowledgeable with respect to their needs
Knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering simple treatment and related bedside care to resident
Ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with residents, families, and visitors

Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively deliver training and education
Exceptional organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Knowledge of applicable community resources available for staff, clients and families
Able to provide a current, clear Vulnerable Screening

Responsibilities:
Provides clinical/operational orientation and training to PSW's, Housekeeping, Laundry and Food Services Staff and assesses the clinical/operational skills and competencies of staff
Champions RGH policies and procedures through education and training
Arranges mandatory and specific education as per assessed needs, including coordination of external trainers and educators
Integrates client-centered practice expectations in all education and training events
Conducts educational needs analysis to support creation of education plan for RGH
Operationalizes RGH's educational plan in collaboration with the DOC and Administrator
Coordinates all student placement requests from educational institutions
Selects and educates preceptors for students on placement
Educates staff for Flu and other Health and Wellness programs
Maintains current knowledge to standards of practice; clinical skills and supplies/equipment
Supports clinical supply and equipment ordering and management

Utilizing a collaborative approach, applying GPA techniques and strategies to reduce and mitigate responsive behaviours, restraint usage and antipsychotic usage in the home.
