Sr. Specialist, Food Safety - 12mth Contract



The Impact You'll Make:




The retail Food Safety team works with various internal and external teams (Banner Operations, third party service providers, regulators, business units, supply chain, etc.) to lead the implementation and enforcement of food safety protocols across all store locations. This team ensures compliance with company policies and Canadian regulations through audits, training programs, corrective action plans, and cross-functional collaboration.

What You'll Do:



Provide leadership on food safety issues at the store level, ensuring that store management and employees understand the implications of food safety regulations as well as their impact on, and importance to the business. Monitor the implementation of food safety protocols, procedures, and programs such as Good Retail Practices, Standard Operating Procedures, and Standard Recipe Procedures. Ensure that these are current and in place at the store level. Identify and report situations which may compromise food safety and follow up to ensure appropriate corrective action is carried out. (i.e., pest activity, crisis events) Provide input on the development of new policies and procedures as required and recommend these to the Food Safety Director. Reinforce training, knowledge, and skills from internal CES training and deliver additional training to Store Managers, Assistant Store Managers, Department Managers and other employees as appropriate. Monitor 3rd party food safety audits and ensure that they are completed in accordance with LCL food safety audit policies. Ensure that all parts of the business meet established standards. Follow up food safety audits and/or government inspections (i.e., Health Unit, CFIA, etc.) by reviewing audit results with Department or Store Managers, recommending corrective action plans and ensuring that these plans are implemented in accordance with the requirements of the National Food Safety Program. Monitor audit results over time to identify common issues across the business and recommend responses to those issues. Stay current on all legislation surrounding food safety issues in Canada, anticipate developments that could or will affect food safety and recommend measures that address such developments. Liaise with government inspectors (Public Health, CFIA) as appropriate to address and resolve food safety issues as they arise at the banner and store level.

What You'll Bring:



Experience:

3-5 years' work experience in food safety, quality assurance, or related areas.

Educational Background:

Post-secondary degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health Inspection, or a related discipline.

Regulatory Knowledge:

Strong understanding of Canadian and Provincial regulatory requirements concerning food production, labeling, and food safety.

Independent and Driven:

A self-starter with the ability to work independently, without direct supervision, and a strong sense of ownership in your work.

Integrity and Reliability:

Committed to always acting with integrity and accountability. A dependable individual who consistently produces high-quality work.

Analytical and Communication Skills:

Strong analytical abilities, excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the capacity to make clear and logical recommendations.

Travel Requirements:

must possess a valid driver's license

Ability to travel throughout the region on a weekly basis. Occasional overnight stays at hotels are required. (company car provided)

Flexibility:

Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends as needed. Ability to adapt schedule to meet the operational needs of the business
