Are you ready to pursue some of the hardest scalability, performance, and distributed computing challenges in AWS? Our team owns custom customer billing and the associated cost management tools for one of the world's largest billing platforms. Because we sit at the nexus of all AWS services and interact directly with end customers, we build relationships with teams across AWS to ensure that we offer a secure and reliable customer experience.



We seek a leader to build a new organization focused on simplifying and accelerating the software development experience for 20,000+ AWS engineers. You will shape AWSBX from the ground up with a singular mission: make software development simpler across AWS. Success requires building services and tools that reduce friction, listening closely to what your internal customers tell you gets in the way of building, influencing the Amazon Software Builder Experience (ASBX) roadmap, and driving transformation for engineering teams.



This role requires ownership, autonomy, and an ability to deliver results. You should be a self-starter with a bias towards independent problem solving. Clear communication and prioritization will be important as you partner with Product Management to plan, design, and deliver game changing experiences for customers. Your passion for the potential of computing to help AWS Partners to run their businesses on AWS native tools, and proven experience managing complex technology projects, will help you make strong business judgments. Your expertise is deep and broad; you start with the customer and work backwards to develop a coherent vision for services that support the flexibility and scale that customers expect from us. You have built and operated systems that support high-end business complexity and scale with simple and elegant solutions that are highly decoupled, yet operate in concert to produce customer experiences that are unique to Amazon. You will be responsible for a material piece of the AWS Platform Experience and join a select group of a people making history producing and selling infrastructure and software as a service. You will do this with an organization that is the acknowledged market leader and is regularly redefining the new normal for what is possible.



About You

You remain technically hands-on and close to the technology despite your leadership role. You're passionate about developer experience and get frustrated by inefficiencies that make building software unnecessarily difficult. You understand the challenges AWS developers face today and have a clear vision for improvement. You spend time listening to teams across AWS and validating that your teams are working on the right problems, and the solutions meaningfully simplify the AWS developer experience across all teams. You're comfortable maintaining focused scope and saying "no" to distractions, even when they come from senior stakeholders. You recognize that exceptional


execution within a focused mission creates more impact than diluting efforts across too many initiatives. You're an experienced hiring manager excited about building a world-class, diverse organization. You take the long view while delivering incremental improvements. You're deeply self-critical, actively seek customer feedback, and are willing to challenge the status quo. You have strong backbone - able to voice opinions confidently, make difficult decisions, and defend your position when working with senior leaders across AWS.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

10+ years developing complex software products 8+ years software engineering management experience 3+ years experience managing managers (leader of leaders) Hands-on technical knowledge and ability to dive deep into engineering challenges

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Deep hands-on experience building software at AWS Proven track record building and managing high-performing engineering teams Experience with software tooling and services supporting development lifecycle at scale Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to work with senior leaders across organizations to develop and champion long-term technical strategy

The base salary for this position ranges from $214,200/year up to $357,800/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
