In this role you will be responsible for delivering process engineering deliverables and value creation opportunities for the cost-effective development & execution of tailings and water projects in Wood Buffalo region and providing site process engineering support as required to Base Plant, Fort Hills and Syncrude.Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an engineering or operations related position with the exposure to oil sands extraction or energy & utility facilities
  • A Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Mineral or Chemical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer status from provincial association in jurisdictions with professional associations
  • Effective communication skills and proven ability to deliver expectations and drive customer satisfaction
  • Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
  • Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
Responsibilities:
  • Provide process engineering services and deliverables to support tailings and water projects through a staged-gated project development and execution process (Scoping, DBM, FEED, Detailed Engineering):
  • Develop and maintain technical models and process design basis that are used for tailings & water project development
  • Prepare heat and material balances, equipment sizing and evaluation, PFDs/P&ID\xe2\x80\x99s as required
  • Perform technical supervision on external consultants and EP contractors, support Design Reviews, PHA\xe2\x80\x99s and risk assessments
  • Support operation/maintenance/reliability/engineering (OMRE) team through project execution and commissioning and start-up (CSU)
  • Identify high value initiatives and apply new technologies to improve cost effectiveness
  • Perform process calculations and evaluation studies for complex technical issues and opportunities such as risk mitigation, debottlenecking, or energy efficiency improvement
  • Ensure that the process engineering work considers the integration across the assets or areas in Wood Buffalo region as well as identify alignment opportunities and gaps across a suite of projects
  • Support tailing & water subject matter experts (SMEs) for best practice development and maintain consistent use of Suncor technical standards and process design criteria and guidelines
  • Provide emergency technical support to Base Plant, Fort Hills and Syncrude
Location and other key details:
  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 \xe2\x80\x93 6th Ave S.W.
  • This is an office based role, hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Travel to the Fort McMurray region is required (approx. 10% travel)
