The Opportunity
Vermilion Energy has an exciting opportunity within the Canadian Business Unit(CBU), seeking a Sr. Operations Engineer. Based in Calgary, Alberta this role will report directly to the Team Lead, Operations & Data Analytics and be an integral part of the CBU Business Unit Facilities.

Vermilion has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Operations Engineer. This position will be based in Calgary with periodic field travel. The successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s mission is to bring technology into Field Operations by modernizing our infrastructure using SCADA/IoT devices, implementing Field Service Management which includes digitizing forms, operator task management, Prodview entry, alarm management and data analytics. In pursuit of this goal, the candidate will incorporate considerations for asset reliability, on-line performance, and overall lifespan while ensuring that risks are identified and dealt with in a proactive manner.

What you will do

  • Champion a safe work environment throughout the CBU;
  • Identify, manage and execute new technology projects such as Field Service Management, Installation of SCADA/IoT devices that improve field processes, reduce operating costs, improve safety, and otherwise meet economic requirements;
  • Provide support and development for existing platforms (Power Analytics, CBU Downtime Report)
  • Support overall process to improve data quality within field operations and the CBU - tied to the prioritization of the top data use cases
  • Identify, manage, prioritize, and execute operations projects that meet economic and HSE requirements;
  • Provide technical Engineering support to the TL and Field Leaders as required;
  • Develop, optimize, or enhance new and existing processes as required to reduce operating costs, improve safety, and otherwise increase free cash flow;
  • Review and ensure HSE events are adequately investigated and corrective actions put in place to resolve;
  • Develop and monitor annual operating cost budget and targets;
  • Develop and implement Canadian production optimization strategies;
  • Coordinate due diligence activities for new Canadian acquisitions;
  • Revise or develop policies, procedures and standards to ensure all work is carried out safely and optimally, adhering to industry best practices;
  • Collaborate with Asset Integrity and Facilities group to ensure their strategies are implemented with operations input and support, including participating in HAZOP reviews, Operability reviews and root cause failure investigations; and
  • Travel to all field locations regularly.


Essential Experience & Skills
  • The ideal candidate will have a foundational background in Production or Facilities Engineering, supplemented with Field Operations and HSE experience
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience
  • Proven and demonstrated commitment to adding value
  • Able to work with a team in high paced environment and set priorities
  • Strong project manager
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills
