Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.

Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Maintenance Assistant, to join our Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery and Electrowinning Plants in Sudbury.

The role holder will provide technical expertise for elements such as: electrical/electronic control systems, control software and telecommunications. The successful applicant will facilitate automation implementation for new and existing equipment and its integration into a process operation.

Accountabilities

In this position you will:

  • Assist with the design, maintenance and programming of the following systems and devices including: DCS systems (Foxboro, DeltaV, RS View), Schneider PLC systems (Unity, ProWorx), video LAN systems (Indigo Vision), process LANs, gateways, HMI software (Vijeo Designer), Rockwell intelligent MCCs (AB Bulletin 2100 with E300 and E3+ overloads), ABB VFDs (ACS560/800/880) and GE Multilin protection relays. Communications protocols include Modbus (RTU, Plus, TCP/IP), Ethernet/IP, and HART communications over serial and ethernet physical layers, radio frequency, Wi Fi and fiber optics.
  • Assist with maintenance and design of Instrumentation, Electrical, Combustion and Hydraulic Control Systems
  • Proven ability to analyze problems, propose and implement solutions.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of communication and automation systems, safety and fail-safe analysis, critical spare parts lists, etc.
  • The incumbent will be required to document data and procedures, and complete formal written reports.
  • Maintain and update electrical, instrumentation, Combustion BM, and network prints using approved software.
  • Must be able to mentor, coach and train junior colleagues and possess strong communication skills.
  • This position requires the incumbent to work in an a heavy industrial environment.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:

Education: Graduate technologist in electrical/electronic discipline (certification in automation, electronics, communications, electrical, instrumentation and/or relevant field is desirable).

Experience: More than three years of related experience in similar design and maintenance fields preferred. Previous experience in automation, communications (cable TV), military, network management, automotive, will be considered.

Analytical: Knowledge of modern analytical techniques, instrumentation, Combustion BMS and network communications is required. Applicant must be fully conversant with applicable codes and government regulations.

Processes: General knowledge of automation equipment, Fiber System Design and Maintenance is required. Willingness to learn and adapt to new and changing technologies is a requirement.

Computer: General knowledge with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, outlook and PowerPoint.
