Job Description




Job Purpose:
Reporting to the Biosimilars Medical Head, ECP. The Sr. Medical Manager is the single point of medical contact in Canada. They will be focused on the biosimilar ophthalmology medical product launch and lifecycle support with a potential to support expanded portfolio of products from different therapeutic area.

They build peer to peer relationships with the local thought leaders and leads internal and external scientific educational activities. They identify the research / RWE opportunities and manages internal and external relationships related to it. The Sr. Medical Manager is integral to building and maintaining valued constructive partnerships with internal key stakeholders (e.g., cross-functional BBU team, specifically marketing and MAX) and external stakeholders (e.g., HCP, scientific societies etc.). The Sr. Medical Manager is responsible for medical affairs budget tracking and management in Canada.

The Sr. Medical Manager ensures all medical activities are managed according to local SOPs and in compliance with the local pharma code.

The Sr. Medical Manager ensures execution according to the medical strategy and leads the development of the local medical plan. Contributes to part of brand planning process and development of medical led activities and studies.

Consistently demonstrates scientific depth on Biogen products and disease areas as evidenced by internal responsibilities and external reputation and networks.

Responsibilities:

Medical point of contact

  • Internal scientific/medical expert advisor to other staff members, conduct medical/scientific education and runs the local medical projects.
  • Member of the brand team and contributor to the local / global strategy development. Responsible for the local medical plan and execution.
  • Participates in the product pre- launch and launch activities. Co-creates launch plan with other internal experts. Shapes and leads the medical launch activities.
  • Facilitate and contribute to the organization of local advisory boards and play a lead role in those that address medical topics as a primary objective.
  • Supports the implementation of medical strategies through active participation at meetings, local congresses, implementation of medical education initiatives, and panel discussions
  • Support to marketing and market access functions in product strategies
  • Provides local support for Regulatory Affairs, Drug Safety, Medical Information and Clinical Research as appropriate
  • Acts as compliance approver for medical and marketing materials for local use
  • Provides support for field force and other medical training as required
  • Present and discuss medical science related to our products to HCPs
  • Builds peer -to peer relationships with healthcare professionals and institutions to establish and maintain a therapeutic leadership position.
  • Communicates recent scientific knowledge/data on Biogen products in approved and off-label indications.
  • Organizes, manages and leads the local advisory board and educational events
  • Stays up to date with therapy advances, current research, medical scientific knowledge, and detailed knowledge on Biogen products & relevant Disease Areas
Medical Operations support
  • Tracks and manages the local medical BBU budget
  • Tracks and supports ICP planning and execution
  • Involved per need basis in the local grant and medical sponsorships processes
  • Ensures appropriate internal documentation of BBU projects according to internal SOPs and policies and external law and codex
Clinical Research Management
  • Leads the coordination, and follow up of the clinical projects (Phase IV studies, IITs, SRAs, etc.) in collaboration with the global clinical operations
  • Ensures timely generation and dissemination of real-life-data according to local SOPs
  • Tracks and ensures contract milestone achievement of clinical projects
  • Tracks and manages the budget for clinical projects in assigned territory and ensures a full alignment with the Biogen Biosimilars Medical Affairs central function in relation to the projects and financials
  • Proactive or reactive focused communication on clinical project processes to internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain effective collaborations with Regional & Global Medical Teams
  • Acts as an active member of regional networks
  • Perform company business in compliance with relevant regulations, company policies and procedures.
  • Other job duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications

Qualifications:
Education
  • Minimum MSc, preferred RPh/PharmD, PhD, MD
Experience, including # of years
  • 5- years of experience in medical affairs including MSL, Medical Advisor or similar role
  • Scientific experience in ophthalmology and / or immunology desired, exposure to biosimilars is a plus.
Language(s)
  • Fluency in English, proficiency in French is desired.
Skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of end-to-end processes relevant for medical projects (e.g., external education and engagement, Ad Boards, RWE initiatives, content generation, PSP)
  • Understanding and experience with the cross-functional interdependencies (e.g., with marketing, Market Access)
  • An understanding of drug development through clinical research
  • Proven expertise in working with and within local regulations and code of practice.
  • Ability to work independently and in a matrix environment.
  • Digitally capable and early adopter/promoter of multiple platforms.
Additional requirements:
  • Travel up to 25% of time
