Job Description

CenerTech Canada Ltd. Is seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer to join the team to support the Fort McMurray region. We are a team of dedicated professionals who take pride in the work we do, the exceptional customers we serve, this position is in the Fort McMurray, AB area on a client site and it is a 14/14 rotation with a competitive hourly rate with travel, LOA and camp provided.


Background




Degree in Mechanical or Materials Engineering; Professional registration with APEGA; Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience in pipeline and pressure equipment engineering or rotating equipment, operations and maintenance; A demonstrated commitment to process and occupational safety and experience with Management of Change tools and procedures; Well versed in statutory regulations, industry standards, and recommended practices, with a practical sense in the application of those codes and standards; Experience in pipeline and/or pressure equipment RBI or tool development is a big asset; Excellent planning and execution drive to deliver results and meet safety, quality, cost, and schedule targets; Ability to multitask, stay organized and work on a series of engineering packages and projects in parallel; Experience with leading and coordinating technical work, including 3rd party contractors, and working with a multidisciplinary team to safely and efficiently execute the work; Strong written, verbal and presentation communication skills, interpersonal, management and leadership skills.

Roles and Responsibilities




Engineering Work Packages (EWPs)



Develop clear, constructible EWPs (scope, drawings, BOM, specs, QA/QC, ITPs, hold points).

Verify field fit; coordinate site walks, as-founds, and redlines; ensure P&IDs and isometrics are current.

Define commissioning/turnover requirements and acceptance criteria.

Reliability/Repair Requests (RRs)



Triage and assess RRs; define root cause, immediate mitigations, and permanent fixes.

Produce stamped (as applicable) repair details or vendor-validated solutions with risk assessments.

Prioritize based on safety, production impact, and LACD/criticality; communicate status to requestors.

Procurement Parts Review



Review and approve technical equivalents; confirm materials, ratings, codes, and interfaces.

Maintain/clean up SAP material masters and BOMs; prevent wrong-part orders and NCRs.

Collaborate with SCM on sole-source justifications, deviations, and expediting of critical spares.

Management of Change (MOC)



Own assigned MOCs end-to-end: hazard review, design basis, calculations, drawings, procedures.

Ensure code/regulatory compliance (e.g., ABSA, ASME VIII/IX, B31.3, CSA Z662 as applicable).

Coordinate PSSR, documentation updates, and training; close actions on time with evidence.

Field Support & Turnarounds/Outages



Provide day-to-day troubleshooting of rotating/static equipment, piping, valves, and packages.

Support outage planning (scope freeze, EWP readiness, job cards) and execution (RFI response).

Validate repairs, perform post-work inspections, and capture lessons learned.

Quality, Safety, and Compliance



Lead by example on safety; integrate engineering controls into scopes and EWPs.

Issue and resolve NCRs/DFRs; drive corrective/preventive actions.

* Keep engineering records current: redlines, MTRs, MDRs, data books, and pressure boundary files.
