As a world leader in the design and manufacturing industry, Active Dynamics is seeking an eager and enthusiastic experienced Sr. Manufacturing Engineering Manager to join our successful Toronto team immediately. We are looking for a talent with solid professional skills in manufacturing. The primary responsibility of this role is to drive, develop, grow, and optimize the operational infrastructure of the company to support the overall strategic and growth objectives. This includes new equipment and processes, asset, and plant utilization in alignment with our global customer requirements including strategic growth opportunities. The Sr. Manufacturing Engineering Manager is, also, responsible for staying abreast of new manufacturing technologies with a significant focus on advanced manufacturing, process automation and factory management systems, monitoring economic and global industry trends and making proposals to senior management to meet corporate strategic objectives. This position reports to the Director of Ops. What you will be doing:

  • Develop, execute and maintain a comprehensive manufacturing engineering strategy that meets domestic and corporate growth and strategic objectives and provides regular updates to senior management, including updates on people, process/equipment, capabilities and capacity.
  • Provide business case (ROI) and support for Operations strategy advancement and movement toward industry best practices.
  • In conjunction with Finance, construct financial models in support of competitive assessment activities in operations.
  • Support Operations strategy initiatives as they relate to joint ventures, through detailed business analysis, due diligence processes and project execution.
  • Manage the global fabrication equipment and assembly lines capacities, recommend product relocations, equipment purchases and identify outsourcing opportunities to support the growth strategies.
  • Direct and track all Manufacturing Engineering activities for timely completion, including project management of key projects, tasks, and subtasks.
  • Partner with Director of Operations on establishing and implementing capital equipment projects and production improvement activities.
  • Stay abreast of new manufacturing processes, equipment and technologies and make recommendations to senior management. Partner with IT group to ensure continuity of standards.
  • Track and communicate operational Best Practices (equipment/processes, etc.) in conjunction with the Plant Manager and Operations Managers, across all manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with Sales, Product Engineering, Finance, etc. for input and direction on strategic objectives and associated support documentation. Specifically, working within the Company\'s stage gate and change management systems to develop products on time, optimized for function, cost and quality.
  • Participate as an integral part of the strategic business planning process to ensure Operations is well positioned to support the company growth projections, ability to deal with legislative changes and awareness of industry trends.
  • Partner with the Sales team to facilitate the strategic roadmap process including product rationalization initiatives.
  • Track progress against strategic roadmap goals and product rationalization objectives and guide the process to evolve plans as appropriate.
  • Capital equipment oversight for all manufacturing facilities as it relates to capacity management, replacement strategy and standardization.
  • Enable, support, drive and monitor key Operational Strategy initiatives as required.
  • Partner with finance to review and improve cost as it relates to COGS and model returns of various investments. Continuously partner with Engineering as key stakeholder in VA/VE (value added / value engineering) process to drive cost reductions and improvements to COGS that meet business objectives.
  • Use knowledge of costing and production methods in all analyses, especially ad/hoc, to provide accurate guidance to decision-making.
  • Partner with Customers and Active Engineering teams in the development of new and existing products to optimize cost and production efficiency; including, but not limited to, design to cost, design for manufacture, design for assembly and service. Participate in design reviews and develop optimal processes to minimize cost, and maximize capacity and ROI. Provide input and analysis related to cost development and/or revenue initiatives, e.g. facility overhead/capacity and projected cost.
  • Support/manage tooling budgets and project implementation costs.
  • Develop, monitor and oversee Preventive Maintenance activities as they relate to critical assets within the organization.

What you bring along:
  • Bachelor of Mechanical, Industrial or Mechatronics Engineering
  • P. Eng. designation from PEO desirable
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt desirable
  • Project management experience; PMP designation desirable
  • 10+ years in a manufacturing leadership position
  • Leading and executing capital projects
  • Deep understanding and experience of the Theory of Constraints, process flow optimization, current and future state process mapping and other Lean manufacturing tools and techniques
  • Microsoft Office, financial reporting and ERP system knowledge
  • Team leadership and development
  • Sheet metal or tubular fabricated products
  • Vendor development, APQP and cost negotiations, as well as outsourcing models for manufacturer & global fulfillment
  • CAD design and 3D parametric modelling software applications
  • highly analytical with the structured thought process
  • Proven ability to work on multiple work streams and manage projects while fostering effective cross-functional team relationships in a collaborative work environment
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
